TONAWANDA, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team split two matches against cross-town rival Medaille College tonight at Classic Lanes. The Wildcats opened the action with an 879-787 win in a traditional total pinfall match. The host Mavericks got even by defeating Daemen 4-2 in a Baker format total pinfall match.
Sophomore Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) rolled a team-high 192 in the opening match. The Wildcats also got solid efforts from fellow sophomores Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.) and Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.). Newberry posted a 186 and Pencek rolled a 185. Freshman Christina Aldridge (Webster, N.Y.) and junior Katie Good (Hamburg, N.Y.) also contributed to the win, posting respective scores of 169 and 147.
In the best-of-seven Baker match, the Mavericks took the first two games (199-144 and 180-146), before Daemen posted a 168-161 win in game three. The teams split the next two games, as Medaille took the fourth (169-148) and Daemen took the fifth (155-151). The Mavericks secured the win with a 223-209 win in game six.
The two teams have now met six times this year and Medaille holds a 4-2 edge in those meetings. Today's results pushes Daemen's record to 25-22 this season. Medaille moves to 54-38 on the year.
Daemen returns to action this weekend (March 22-24) when it travels to Wyomissing, Pa. to take part in the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament.
