Graduating Student-Athlete Profile: Kailey Ballou 5/14/2019 12:00:00 PM Share: It is graduation week on campus, and daemenwildcats.com is profiling several student-athletes who have completed their athletic eligibility and/or are walking the stage at Daemen's commencement ceremony this weekend. Kailey Ballou enjoyed a solid four-year career with the Daemen women's volleyball team. Appearing in 112 matches as a defensive specialist, she helped the Wildcats achieve a 69-52 overall record, a 40-18 East Coast Conference record, two regular season conference championships, two NCAA tournament berths and an ECC tournament title. The Eden, N.Y. native recorded 10 or more digs in 42 matches, finishing her career with 904 total digs. She recently caught up with daemenwildcats.com for a reflection of her time at Daemen. What is the degree that you are graduating with? KB: Bachelor of Science in Natural Science with a Health Science Specialization and a minor in Biology. Doctorate in Physical Therapy in progress. D: What is your favorite memory or memories from your student-athlete experience? KB: Winning the ECC championship last fall. D: What were your impressions of Daemen when you arrived compared to now? KB: Before coming to Daemen I was not sure what to expect because it was such a small school. I am extremely happy that I chose to come to Daemen because everyone here is so welcoming. I have had a tremendous experience at Daemen with both athletics and academics. D: What is the thing about Daemen that you will miss the most? KB: The close-knit community throughout the athletics department. D: What do you consider to be your most meaningful accomplishment during your time at Daemen? KB: Winning the ECC championship and hosting and playing in the NCAA tournament. D: Who has been the most influential person during your college years, and can you describe the influence this person has had on you? KB: My parents have been the most influential people in my life during my college years. Throughout these past few years there have been many ups and downs, but my parents have always supported me and never gave up on me. I would not be where I am today without my parents. My parents have encouraged my dreams in athletics and i nthe classroom and are always there for me. D: What do your future plans hold? KB: Finish graduate school at Daemen and receive my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. D: What words of advice do you have for your underclassmen teammates and new recruits joining the program? KB: Keep working hard because there is no better feeling then achieving your goals. Build relationships within the athletic department because the bonds you build with your teammates and coaches will last you a lifetime.
