Boyar & Meyer Star As Wildcats Race Past Nyack For Fifth Straight Win

Boyar Nets 3 Goals & Records 100th Point Of Career; Meyer Posts First Multi-Goal Game Of Career

AMHERST, N.Y. - It was another offensive explosion for the Daemen College women's soccer team as senior Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) and junior Katja Meyer (Verona, N.Y.) combined for five goals to lead the Wildcats to a 7-0 victory over visiting Nyack College in non-conference action at Karrer Field today. The Wildcats, who were already off to the best start in program history, improve to 5-0 on the season. It marks just the fourth five-game winning streak in the 20-year history of the program, and the team's longest since a seven-game streak that spanned the final five games of 2012 and the first two of 2013.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Boyar scored the first three goals of the contest, accounting for her fourth multi-goal game of the season. She put the Wildcats on top 1-0 at the 17:29 mark, scoring off a feed from sophomore midfielder Grace Stranahan (Grand Island, N.Y.). With the opening tally, Boyar surpassed 100 points in her career, joining former Wildcat greats Kim Walker (2003-06) and Samantha Engel (2010-13) as the only players in team history to reach that total.
  • Boyar's second goal came at the 21:21 mark off a feed from fellow senior Lindsay Ciaramella (St. George, Ont.). She added her "hat trick" tally at 27:18 after taking a pass from Erin Egan (Williamsville, N.Y.).
  • The Wildcats weren't done there as Meyer struck for a pair of goals before the end of opening period. Less than 90 seconds after Boyar made it 3-0, Meyer netted one with another assist going to Stranahan. She would make it 5-0 on a nice tic-tac-toe play at the 43:50 mark as Egan and Aryana Dreyer (Orchard Park, N.Y.) picked up assists.
  • Egan would get on the board at the 59:35 mark - her first career goal - after taking a feed from Sarah Kenny (Perth, Australia).
  • Stranahan provided the final tally, scoring at the 64:35 mark off a pass from Sam Hanes (North Tonawanda, N.Y.)
  • Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.) went the distance in goal, making five saves en route to her second shutout of the season, and the sixth of her career.

HEAD COACH DAN DOLAN POST-GAME COMMENTS
"We feel pretty good. Our spirits are super high right now, confidence is real high. The biggest thing is just taking care of our bodies. You know, we've got a short turn-around, a long trip on Friday. And then NYIT is always very difficult, mostly on the road. So, they're a good team, they're going to be our hardest test so far. But we're ready, we're ready for it and can't wait to get it going."

JAMIE BOYAR COMMENTS ON RECORDING HER 100TH CAREER POINT
"I think it shows a lot about how this team has grown from my freshman year. It just shows that our midfield continues to get better. Like you said, I think last week, without them I really can't be scoring goals. So we have Lindsay [Ciaramella], Sam [Hanes], Elise [Williams], Grace [Stranahan], [Sarah] Kenny, and all of them. They really know how to find that ball and I just run onto it."

GAME NOTES

  • Boyar has now scored in five consecutive games for the first time in her career. Daemen is 22-5-1 in her career when she scores a goal, and a perfect 13-0 when she scores two or more.
  • Her three goals today mark a season-high, and also the fourth game of her career with three or more goals. Since Sept. 15, 2018, Boyar has posted nine multi-goal games in 17 total games played.
  • Boyar has started all 55 games since the start of the 2016 season, and has totaled 47 goals, 11 assists and 105 points. Her six points today pull her into a tie with Engel for second in program history (Walker holds the program record with 132 points). She also now stands just seven goals shy of Walker's program record of 54.
  • Boyar leads the ECC with 10 goals and 21 points this season. She's just the second player in all of NCAA Division II to reach the 10-goal plateau this season, joining Anniina Sankoh of Lynn University.
  • Meyer's two goals give her three on the season, and seven in her career. It marked her first career multi-goal game.
  • It also marked the first time Daemen has had two players score two or more goals since Boyar (5) and Celia de Pablo Esteban (2) combined for seven goals in a 9-1 win over Lincoln on Oct. 17, 2018.
  • Egan's four-point game gives her five points this season. The 6-foot redshirt senior is competing in soccer for the first time since high school. She completed a four-year career with the Daemen women's basketball team last winter, earning third-team All-ECC honors.
  • Ciaramella pulled into a tie with Victoria Ramirez of Queens College for the ECC lead with five assists this season. The five assists also match Ciaramella's career-high which she set during her sophomore season. She now has 12 assists and 20 total points in her career.
  • Stranahan has now scored in four of the Wildcats' five games this season. She ranks second in the ECC in both goals (4) and points (11).
  • Daemen continues to lead the ECC in total goals (24), goals per game (4.80), goals allowed per game (0.40) and goal differential (+22).
  • Coupled with their 7-0 win over Urbana University on Sept. 6, the Wildcats have now posted at least seven goals twice in a season for the first time since 2011 when they did it four times.
  • Daemen is now 13-5-2 at Karrer Field since the start of the 2017 season. The Wildcats are unbeaten in their last eight home games (7-0-1) and have won three straight.
  • Nyack fell to 0-3-0 on the season. The Warriors are members of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
  • Today's game marked just the second all-time meeting between Daemen and Nyack, and the first since Sept. 5, 2003 when Daemen won a neutral-site contest 3-2.
  • Previous winning streaks of five games or more in program history occurred in 2012-13 (7), 2011 (8) and 2005 (5).
