WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's tennis team returned to dual meet action today for the first time in three weeks and suffered a 7-0 loss to Niagara University. The non-conference match took place at Williamsville South High School. The Division I Purple Eagles improved to 2-0 on the year, while the Division II Wildcats dropped to 0-2.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Aided by a default win in the No. 3 doubles position, the Purple Eagles opened a 1-0 lead in the match after winning all three doubles matches. The outcome of doubles matches will award a single point to the team winning at least two of the three matchups, as opposed to awarding points for each individual doubles victory.
- No. 1 doubles was a competitive affair, as NU's Jorge Sedeno and Darrel Harxhi posted a 7-6 win over DC's Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany) and Jose Williamson III (Minneapolis, Minn.).
- Sedeno outlasted Wilde at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-4), while Darrel defeated Williamson at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-1).
- Daemen's Patrick O'Brien (Pittsford, N.Y.) put up a solid effort at No. 3 singles, as the sophomore suffered a 7-6, 6-3 loss to freshman Manuel Alonso.
