Wildcats Drop Non-League Match To Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - The Daemen College men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Merrimack College here today in a non-conference match. The loss dropped the Wildcats to 0-3 on the year. It marked the first dual match of the year for Merrimack, which is transitioning from NCAA Division II to Division I.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Aided by a default win in the No. 3 doubles position, the Warriors opened a 1-0 lead in the match after winning all three doubles matches. The outcome of doubles matches will award a single point to the team winning at least two of the three matchups, as opposed to awarding points for each individual doubles victory.
  • No. 1 doubles was a competitive affair, as MC's Jonathan Garcia and Conrad Koch posted a 6-4 win over DC's Fabian Wilde (Crimmitschau, Germany) and Jose Williamson III (Minneapolis, Minn.).
  • Wilde suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Denis Davydov at No. 1 singles, while Williamson fell to Garcia at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0.
  • Daemen's Patrick O'Brien (Pittsford, N.Y.) and James Schaab-Rozbicki (Amherst, N.Y.) both put up a solid effort at their respective singles spots. O'Brien suffered a 6-4, 7-6 loss to fellow sophomore Alec Mackay Rodriguez at No. 3 singles, while Schaab-Rozbicki fell 7-6, 6-3 to Paul Weidinger at No. 5 singles.

The Wildcats remain in New England and will play a non-conference match at regional power Southern New Hampshire University Sunday (Oct. 6). close. It will mark the final match of Daemen's abbreviated fall schedule.
