This morning's race played out a bit differently than planned as the open-water swim in Canandaigua Lake was cancelled due to high algae levels; a one-mile run was added in its place. HIGHLIGHTS Custodi finished third among the 55 female entrants with a time of 1:14:42. It marked her second third-place finish at the Finger Lakes Triathlon, having previously done so nearly two years ago to the day (Sept. 10, 2017) in her only prior appearance at the event. Merrill completed the course in 1:15:54, placing first in the female 15-19 age group. She also placed sixth overall among female entrants. Yap finished third in the age group and 12th overall with a time of 1:20:07. Carroll's time of 1:21:27 was good for fifth in the age group and 15th overall. HEAD COACH JON METZ'S POST-RACE COMMENTS "We scheduled this as 'B' race for training and to assess fitness. We will use data collected from today's race to guide future training. Even though the swim was cancelled, this race provided a platform to work on additional gains in speed, and to dial in our race-day skills such as technique and transitions." RACE NOTES Daemen's volunteer assistant coach Jenny Redding competed as well, placing first among all female entrants with a time of 1:11:32. UP NEXT Daemen will participate in the NCAA Women's Sprint hosted by Trine University next Saturday, Sept. 14. Daemen College features the only NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
