The Wildcats picked up their third-straight win and their second this weekend, improving to 17-5 overall and 6-2 in ECC play. Daemen, which knocked off visiting Molloy College on Friday night, continued to break out offensively. The Wildcats entered the weekend averaging just 66.8 points over the first six games this month, but have now reached 90 points in back-to-back games, the second time they've done so this season. New York Tech, which had won two of their last four games including a 68-66 win Friday at Roberts Wesleyan College, dropped to 3-16 overall and 2-6 in conference play. TOP PERFORMERS Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) paced Daemen's quintet of double-figure scorers, finishing with 19 points and six rebounds. The redshirt junior center shot 6-for-12 from the field with a trio of alley-oops in the second half among his total. He added a perfect 6-for-6 showing at the charity stripe. Jeff Redband (Batavia, N.Y.) continued his assault from three-point range, canning 5-of-8 shots from downtown today en route to 17 points. Today's shooting performance included the 280th three-point field goal of Redband's career as he moved past David Skolen for second in program history. Joey Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) also notched 17 points and added season-highs of seven assists and four steals. Daemen is now 10-1 this season when he records at least three assists. Breon Harris (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) and Jay Sarkis (Rochester, N.Y.) got into the act as well, scoring 14 points apiece. Harris chipped in season-highs in assists (7) and steals (5), and Sarkis canned a pair of three-pointers among his 5-for-10 shooting performance. Redshirt senior forward Jeffrey Hayden came off the bench to record 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists for the Bears. Laurynas Stonkus added 12 points. HOW IT HAPPENED A disastrous offensive start for the Bears allowed Daemen to open up a 15-3 lead in the game's first 11 minutes. The visitors made just one of their first 15 field goal attempts and compounded matters by committing eight turnovers in that span as well. A thunderous one-handed slam in transition by Harris made it 22-5, and the Daemen lead reached 20 points (29-9) when Sischo converted a pair of freebies with 5:07 left in the period. The Wildcats would take a 39-19 lead into halftime despite less than 40 percent field-goal shooting (12-for-31). The Bears shot a dreadful 8-for-28 (28.6%) and their 13 turnovers resulted in 16 Wildcat points. The Daemen offense kicked into another gear to start the second half, opening the period with a 12-2 spurt that increased their lead to 51-21. Back-to-back threes by Redband and Sarkis prompted a New York Tech timeout, but Sarkis drilled another one when play resumed to cap the spurt. The Bears never got the deficit under 26 points for the remainder of the contest. They employed some full court pressure periodically, but that was met in a bevy of transition opportunities for Daemen, including the three alley-oop slams by Sischo. Daemen was credited with 22 fastbreak points in the period, finishing with a season-high 28 in the game. Daemen made 21-of-34 field goals and 8-of-12 three-pointers in the second half as they erupted for 53 points - their first half with 50+ points since Dec. 19. The Wildcats finished 33-of-65 from the field (50.8%) and 11-of-22 from three-point range (50%). They held sizable advantages in points off turnovers (29-9), fastbreak points (28-4) and rebounding (38-29).
