AMHERST, N.Y. - Kassandra Nolet (Fort Erie, Ont.) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for competitions held February 3-9. The announcement of ECC weekly awards was made this afternoon in the league's weekly sport report.
Nolet becomes just the fifth athlete in the nine-year history of the Daemen women's track and field program to garner a weekly award from the ECC during the indoor track and field season. She joins past honorees Jordan Weir (Track Athlete of the Week: Feb. 11, 2013), Toria Williams (Field Athlete of the Week: Feb. 2, 2015), Mackenzie Donahue (Track Athlete of the Week: Feb. 8, 2016) and current teammate Katja Meyer (Field Athlete of the Week: Jan. 22, 2019).
She posted her second first-place showing in the 5,000 meter run this season during The College of Brockport Multi this past Saturday. She topped the field of 22 runners with a personal-best time of 18:42.93. She crossed the finish line 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Molly Byrne of SUNY Geneseo. She also placed first out of seven runners in the 5,000 meters at the Brockport Season Opener on Dec. 7 with a time of 19:21.10.
Nolet has now posted a top-five finish in each of Daemen's four meets this spring. She also placed fourth in the 3,000 meters at the RIT Invitational with a personal-best time of 10:52.03 and came in second place in the mile run at the Highlander Invitational with a personal-best time of 5:30.73.
Nolet, who earned second team All-ECC honors during the cross country season this past fall, has now posted a top-five finish in six of the 11 events she has competed in during her two seasons of indoor track.
Nolet and the Wildcats are idle until Feb. 22 when they close out the indoor season at the ECC Championships in Staten Island, N.Y.
