GREENSBURG, Pa. - For the first time this season, the Daemen College women's bowling team is a tournament champion. The Wildcats posted a 3-1 record and took home the title from the Brother Patrick Lacey Memorial Tournament hosted by St. Vincent College at Hillview Lanes today. It marks the second time that Daemen has claimed this tournament's championship in the last three seasons.

The Wildcats split a pair of traditional matches to start the day, defeating the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford 891-576 before falling to tournament host St. Vincent 831-795. Despite the split, Daemen added a score of 866 to their total pinfall (bye games count in total pinfall count) and the Wildcats were seeded second heading into the tournament's two positional rounds.

Daemen defeated Mercyhurst University 805-774 in their first positional round match, and then got some vengeance on St. Vincent with an 882-778 win in the tournament finals. The Wildcats finished the tournament with a 169.6 per-game average, edging St. Vincent (168.6) atop the standings. Eight total teams competed in the tournament today.

The Wildcats were led today by junior Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) who were each named to the all-tournament team. Hasiotis held a 175.4 average today, ranking fourth out of 44 competing players. Bartosz ranked fifth with a 172.0 average.

Hasiotis rolled a 199 - her high for the day - and Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.) rolled a 190 in Daemen's win over Pitt-Bradford. Bartosz saved her best for last, rolling a 197 in the final match against St. Vincent. Newberry, who ranked 19th with a 168.5 average in the tournament, backed her up with a 193, while Caitlyn Nowak rolled a 189. Nowak just missed all-tournament honors, finishing seventh with a 163.8 average.

Today's results push Daemen's season record to 40-34. It's the first 40-win season in team history.

Daemen returns to action Saturday, March 14 when they meet crosstown rival Medaille College in a head-to-head series. The Wildcats' next tournament will be the East Coast Conference Championships which are slated for March 20-22 in Philadelphia, Pa.
