Sischo Earns Second Team Academic All-American Honors Men's Basketball Player Is First Academic All-American Of Daemen's NCAA Era 3/10/2020 12:10:00 PM By: By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications AMHERST, N.Y. - Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) of Daemen College has been named to the Academic All-America Division II Men's Basketball Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizing his combined achievements in the classroom and on the hardwood. Sischo is one of 16 NCAA Division II men's basketball players to earn Academic All-American status. In the classroom, he carries a 3.40 grade point average while studying sport management, a concentration within Daemen's business administration program. On the court, the 6-foot-9 center has been the catalyst behind Daemen's seventh 20-win season in the last nine years, as well as their second-straight NCAA tournament berth. He is the first Daemen student-athlete from any sport to garner Academic All-American recognition during the college's NCAA era (2015-present). Sischo is averaging 24.9 points and 11.7 rebounds per game for the 24-8 Wildcats. The redshirt junior center is the NCAA Division II leader with 22 double-doubles. He also ranks among the national leaders in scoring (eighth), rebounding (second), made field goals (second) and field goal percentage (10th). He's been a two-time Division II National Player of the Week, a five-time East Coast Conference Player of the Week and was recently named the ECC Player of the Year for a second-straight season. Sischo has totaled 773 points this season - the most for any player in a single season in both Daemen and ECC history. "This is an incredible achievement for Andrew, Daemen College and our men's basketball program," said Daemen head coach Mike MacDonald. "Andrew has continuously shown himself to be a tremendous worker, both on the court and in the classroom. To be recognized among a handful of the top players and scholars in the country is a distinction he has earned." To be eligible for Academic All-American honors, student-athletes must be a starter of important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, they must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility with at least one full calendar year completed at his/her current institution and they must have been named to their respective Academic All-District First Team when those accolades were announced last month. Today's announcement marks the third academic honor of Sischo's career. He was additionally named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court following a stellar redshirt sophomore season in which he averaged 20.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Sischo is a three-time first-team All-ECC selection and he currently stands as the only player in program history to have totaled at least 1,800 points and 900 rebounds. He has led the Wildcats to a 70-24 overall record over the last three seasons. Daemen College features the only NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
