Wildcats Tripped Up By #18 Mocs In Florida Trip Opener

LAKELAND, Fla. - Senior Fabian Wilde earned the 69th overall win of his career, but it wasn't enough as the Daemen College men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss to nationally-ranked Florida Southern College today. 

With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 3-6 on the season. Today's match was their first of three during a tour of The Sunshine State. It marks the third Florida trip in the eight-year history of the program, and the first since 2018. 

Florida Southern, a member of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference, improved to 7-1 overall this season. The Mocs are ranked 18th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II men's tennis national poll.

MATCH NOTES
  • Wilde picked up his team-leading fifth singles win of the season, outlasting Pharm in a three-set thriller. Wilde has now won three-straight in singles play, increasing his career singles win total to 36. He's now tied with former teammate Ricardo Ruiz Martinez for second on Daemen's all-time singles wins list. only Mark Veitengruber holds more singles wins (49) in program history.
  • Now with 69 combined singles/doubles wins in his career, Wilde stands 13 shy of that program record (82) also held by Veitengruber.
