Top 10 Moments of 2019-20: Women's Basketball Drains 20 Three-Pointers In Home Win 7/15/2020 4:00:00 PM AMHERST, N.Y. - On Wednesdays and Fridays this summer, daemenwildcats.com will feature stories that look back upon the top 10 moments of the 2019-20 season. Record-setting performances, important wins and history-making achievements will be documented in the series. THE MOMENT: Women's Basketball drains 20 three-pointers in home win It's no secret that three-point shooting has become an increasingly important feature to offensive basketball. That was especially true for the Daemen women's basketball team in 2019-20 as they displayed a long range shooting acumen (single season records for three-pointers made [238] and attempted [752]) that keyed a 23-5 season that included the program's first East Coast Conference championship. While the team's three-point shooting was consistent throughout, it was never more on display than January 10 when the Wildcats went bombs away on the Queens Knights, canning a program record 20 trifectas in an 89-62 win at Lumsden Gymnasium. We set a new single-game program record with 20 made three-pointers in our 89-62 victory over Queens College this past Friday! #igotyou pic.twitter.com/pfCD1zdVTD — Daemen College WBB (@DaemenWBB) January 14, 2020 Graduate student Ashli Jeune (Westampton, N.J.) led the barrage, shooting 5-for-5 from downtown in the first half alone. Jeune, who entered the contest with 12 three-point field goals in the Wildcats' first 13 games of the season, finished 7-for-10 from three-point range while tallying a season-high 27 points. She wasn't alone as six additional players made three-point shots in the game, including five with at least two. Senior guard/forward Jordan Heinold (Hamburg, N.Y.) - who led the team with 70 three-pointers on the season - and redshirt junior guard Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y.) each connected on a trio of shots from behind the arc while combining for 28 points. Sophomore forward Katie Titus (Penfield, N.Y.) drilled a pair of three-pointers while posting a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds), and guards Sydney Barney (Midland, Pa.) and Lexie Hultman (Forest Lake, Minn.) came off the bench to make two as well. Freshman forward Tyra O'Meally-Turnbull (Niskayuna, N.Y.) got in on the hot streak too, canning just the second three-pointer of her career. Heinold's three-pointer at the 8:21 mark of the fourth quarter - Daemen's 16th of the night - tied the program record for threes made in a single game. The feat had been accomplished twice before: December 20, 2013 in an 88-86 overtime win at Molloy; and March 1, 2019 in a 90-48 romp over Mercy. Moments later at the 7:19 mark, Heinold hit again to put the Wildcats comfortably ahead 78-50 and establish a new single game record. The Wildcats finished 20-for-42 from long range (47.6%) in the contest, outscoring Queens (4-for-11) by 48 points from behind the three-point line. Only six NCAA Division II teams made at least 20 three-pointers in a game during the 2019-20 season. Nebraska-Kearney set the seasonal benchmark by making 24-of-48 against Manhattan Christian on December 14. Among East Region teams, only U. Sciences collected more three-point field goals in a game (22 vs. Nyack on March 3) than Daemen. We were on ?? ?? ?? against Queens on January 10, making a program record 2??0?? three-pointers #tbt pic.twitter.com/oodUUQUi15 — Daemen College WBB (@DaemenWBB) April 9, 2020 ADDITIONAL TOP 10 MOMENTS FROM THE 2019-20 SEASON: Women's Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak with 1-0 Defeat of Mercy Men's Volleyball Hosts Perennial Powerhouse UCLA Daemen College features the premier NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
