PERIOD-BY-PERIOD SUMMARY
First Half (Gannon 43, Daemen 40) -
The teams traded baskets early on and Daemen held a 20-18 lead when a three-pointer by freshman Alfonso Pickens, Jr. sparked the hosts on an 8-0 run. A layup by junior Kevin Dodds with 9:32 left before halftime capped the spurt and gave the Golden Knights a 26-20 lead. The Gannon lead was seven points (30-23) with just over eight minutes left in the frame when the Wildcats countered with a 10-3 run. A conventional three-point play by freshman Tyler Hind (Randolph, N.Y.) capped the run and knotted the game at 33-33 at the 4:21 mark. Daemen later regained the lead (37-36) when Sischo scored off a nice feed from Hemphill with 2:40 left before the break, but the Golden Knights outscored the Wildcats 7-2 down the stretch and the hosts took a 43-40 lead into halftime.

Second Half (Gannon 52, Daemen 27) - Daemen opened the second half scoring with a three-pointer by Fasoyiro, but the Golden Knights erupted for a 16-8 run over the next six minutes to take a 59-51 lead. Clancy sparked the run with three long-range three-pointers and a layup by Walker with 13:31 left to play capped run and gave the hosts a 59-51 lead. GAME NOTES

  • Daemen is off to an 0-2 start for the first time since the 2001-02 season.
  • This was Daemen's first trip to Gannon's Hammermill Center since the 2012-13 season. Gannon improves to 11-1 all-time against Daemen, which was searching for its first win in the series since a 67-65 victory back in 2011.
  • This weekend's games were the first of 12 on the schedule for Daemen during this unprecedented season. All games are subject to change based upon COVID-19 testing results among Daemen's Tier 1 personnel, as well as that of their opponents. Daemen has already had three games postponed, two of which have been rescheduled for next month. The Wildcats went into a COVID-related pause in team activities from Jan. 15-24.
  • The Wildcats were hit hard by graduation, losing four of their five starters, all of whom were 1,000-point scorers and helped Daemen win 89 games.
  • Sischo, a consensus All-American, continues to climb his way up the Daemen record books. In 91 career games, Sischo has totaled 1,876 points and 929 rebounds. He stands as the only player in program history with at least 1,800 points and 900 rebounds. Already the program's all-time leader in field goals (746), he moved into a tie with David Skolen for third place in career scoring and ranks fourth in career rebounds.
  • Sischo also moved up among the East Coast Conference all-time leaders in career points. He surpassed Dowling's David Seagers (1,856) and St. Rose's Damon Reed (1,874) to move into eighth place on the ECC's all-time scoring list. In addition, Sischo ranks second in career field goals (746) and ninth in career rebounds (929) among the ECC's all-time leaders.
  • Daemen is garnering attention from both regional and national pollsters. The Wildcats are ranked in both the D2SIDA regional (No. 2) and national (No. 25) polls, while also receiving votes in the NABC national poll.
  • Only Sischo, Harris, Fasoyiro and redshirt junior forward Ziv Basden have appeared in more than 25 college games. Six of Daemen's 12 players are either freshmen or sophomores. Eight Daemen players have exercised their right to opt out of the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19.
  • Daemen posted an 89-31 record over the past four seasons and the 89 wins since the start of the 2016-17 season represents the most successful four-year span in program history.
