Men's Tennis Nearly Knocks Off Le Moyne

Williamsville, N.Y.- The Wildcats gave a great effort but came up just short against out-of-conference regional powerhouse Le Moyne Sunday afternoon at Williamsville South high school. The final score was 4-3 in favor of the Dolphins. Junior Luis de Vuyst (Antwerp, Belgium) led the Daemen effort with a win in both singles and doubles play.

The result dropped Daemen 0-2 so far in the young season. Le Moyne, a member of the Northeast-10 Conference, evened its record at 1-1.

Doubles Report: Great efforts earn the Wildcats the point
Ben Davis (Rochester N.Y.) and Sam Greco (Amherst N.Y.) paired up and began the day for Daemen but Le Moyne got the first win. Jose Williamson III (Minneapolis, Minn.) and de Vuyst paired up on the second doubles court and won a competitive match, 6-4. Phillip Vance (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Zach Laplante (Ottawa, ON) secured the doubles point for the Wildcats when they won a 6-4 match on the third doubles court.

Singles Report: Daemen takes two of six in hard fought matches
The singles matches began with Davis dropping the opening set 4-6 before rallying back behind a great effort to win the next two sets, 6-4, 6-2, and earning the Wildcats the first singles point. Vance and Laplante were defeated on the second and third courts, respectively before de Vuyst won and gained Daemen their third point of the dual. De Vuyst won a close battle in the first set, 7-5, then dropped the second set 2-6. He was able to outlast his opponent in the third set and win, 6-3. De Vuyst was the only Wildcat to go undefeated on the day.

Le Monye collected the final two singles points of the day which brought the final dual score to 4-3.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Sunday, October 24 at 11 a.m. at Niagara University.
