Daemen Downs D'Youville In Teams' First-Ever Conference Meeting

Wildcats now winners of six straight & nine of their last 10 matches

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Daemen women's volleyball team needed just over an hour to dispatch of crosstown rival D'Youville, winning 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-23) in the teams' first-ever East Coast Conference meeting this evening at the College Center Gymnasium.

Separated by less than 10 miles, the Wildcats and Saints saw their rivalry move into new territory as D'Youville continues its transition from the NCAA Division III ranks to Division II. The teams met last April for the first time since 2008, and the 2021 season marks D'Youville's first as a member of the East Coast Conference. The Wildcats improved to 5-0 all-time against D'Youville with their victory.

The win also extended Daemen's winning streak to six straight matches - their longest since rattling off six in a row early in the 2019 season. The Wildcats have won nine of their last 10 matches, going 28-7 in sets during that span, and are now 13-6 overall and 6-0 in conference play this season.

D'Youville dropped to 2-14 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Tonight's match marked the end of the first round of ECC play for both squads.

Logan, the reigning ECC Player of the Week, recorded a match-high eight kills despite playing in only two sets. Her production came on just 11 attacks as she posted a .727 hitting percentage.
  • Freshman Kate Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y.) notched six kills, while junior Jordan Martin (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and sophomore Vanessa Kuliga (Glenview, Ill.) recorded five kills apiece. Martin added 11 digs - her fourth match in double figures this season.
  • Sophomore Dunja Masic (McHenry, Ill.) ran the Wildcat offense and finished with a season-high 30 assists to go with three kills and two blocks.
  • Sophomore Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) was the lone Daemen starter to play in all three sets. The Wildcat libero finished with a match-high 17 digs.
