CANISIUS ALUMNI CLASSIC — COMPLETE RESULTS
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Daemen College men's cross country team had two runners place among the top 50 finishers en route to an eighth place showing today at the Canisius Alumni Classic, which took place at Delaware Park in Buffalo, N.Y. The Wildcats placed eighth out of a 12 team field, which featured a mix of NCAA Division I, II and III teams.
SUNY Geneseo claimed the team title title, as the Knights placed five runners among the top 13 finishers and posted a team score of 44. Race host Canisius College placed second (47), while St. Bonaventure University (93), Nazareth College (104) and Robert Morris University (155) rounded out the top five. Daemen posted a team score of 209.
Canisius produced the individual champion, as junior Tom Appenheimer posted a time of 25:51.2 over the 8K race that featured 119 runners.
Daemen returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 23) when it takes part in the East Coast Conference Championship on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y..
HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) placed first out of the Daemen runners and finished 15th overall with a time of 27:06.2. The time was just three seconds shy of his personal best time (27:03.8) that he posted at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational last month. It marked the fourth straight race that Moote has paced the Daemen field.
- Sophomore Connor O'Brien (Hamburg, N.Y.) also finished among the top 50 runners today, as he placed 41st with a personal best time of 28:12.1—eclipsing his previous best time of 28:30.5 he set two weeks ago at the Lehigh Paul Short Run.
- Freshman John Balch (Saranac, N.Y.) broke the 30 minute mark for the first time in his brief career and improved on his personal best time for the third-straight race. He finished 71st with a time of 29:11.6, which was nearly a minute better than his previous best time of 30:08.0 he posted at the Lehigh Paul Short Run.
- Sophomore Steven Blatto (Lancaster, N.Y.) also came home with a new personal best time, as he placed 73rd with a time of 29:16.5—eclipsing his previous best time of 29:36.0 he posted at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational last month.
- Junior Dominic Clementi (Barker, N.Y.) also figured in the team scoring for Daemen today, as he placed fifth among Daemen runners and 86th overall with a time of 30:01.1.
- Sophomore David Schwinger (Buffalo, N.Y.), freshman Nolan Robillard (Hamburg, N.Y.) and redshirt junior Alexander Reynolds (Olean, N.Y.) rounded out the Daemen runners today. Schwinger placed 100th (31:02.8), Robillard finished 106th (31:41.9) and Reynolds placed 113th (32:59.9).
