Brundage, Masic Claim ECC Weekly Awards 10/18/2021 3:55:00 PM By: CONTACT: Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications | (716) 839-8385 | mmiranto@daemen.edu AMHERST, N.Y. - Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) and Dunja Masic (McHenry, Ill.) of Daemen College have each been recognized by the East Coast Conference for their play during the week of October 11-17. Brundage has been named the ECC Defensive Player of the Week and Masic has been named the ECC Setter of the Week. The official announcement of ECC weekly awards was made this afternoon in the league's weekly sport report. Brundage and Masic played pivotal roles in Daemen's 3-0 win (25-10, 25-13, 25-23) over crosstown rival D'Youville last Wednesday - the Wildcats' only action of the week. The win, which came in the first-ever conference meeting between the Wildcats and Saints, extended Daemen's winning streak to six straight matches and kept them unbeaten in conference play. The Wildcats (13-6, 6-0 ECC) have won nine of their last 10 matches. Brundage continued her stellar sophomore season by recording a match-high 17 digs against the Saints - an average of 5.67 digs per set. The Western New York native has been named ECC Defensive Player of the Week five times in seven weeks this season. She leads the ECC in both total digs (285) and digs per set (4.13). If the season ended today, Brundage's digs-per-set average would rank as the second highest by a player during Daemen's NCAA Division II era (2015-present), and would be the most since Ali Greenwood's 4.45 in 2018. Masic saw her most extensive action of the season against D'Youville and responded with a season-high 30 assists to go with five kills, three digs and two blocks en route to the first ECC Setter of the Week selection of her career. The 5-foot-9 sophomore battled an injury throughout late August and early September, but is averaging 6.44 assists per set while appearing in six matches this season. She joins teammate Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.), a three-time ECC Setter of the Week selection, as Daemen becomes the first team with multiple recipients in the same season since the award was instituted in 2014. Daemen, which sits all alone in first place in the ECC standings, returns to action Tuesday, October 19 with a non-conference match at Gannon. Daemen College features the premier NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 18 intercollegiate teams.
