Wildcats Win 1-0 In Hotly Contested Conference Game

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - The Daemen men's soccer team won a very hotly contested East Coast Conference game against Staten Island Saturday by a score of 1-0 at Williamsville South High School. Arthur Djengue Bille (Paris, France) scored the lone goal on a beautiful header just eight minutes into the game, assisted by Anthony Cupello (Rochester, N.Y.).

The result improved Daemen's record to 4-9-0 on the season and 2-5-0 in the conference. Staten Island fell to 3-8-1 overall and 1-5-0 in conference play. Daemen snapped a two-game losing streak with today's win.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The lone goal of the game came very early on from a header by Djengue Bille.

  • Cupello assisted the goal with a gorgeous pass.

  • Each team played a physical style of soccer for the remaining time of the first half.

  • The game became increasingly chippy as each team looked for another goal as time wound down with five total yellow cards given out in the final 15 minutes of play.

  • The tension came to a head when a Staten Island player was ejected with three minutes of game time remaining.

GAME NOTES

  • Djengue Bille has now scored a goal in back-to-back games, both coming within the first 10 minutes of each contest.

  • Daemen improves to 4-3 on the season when scoring the first goal.

LOOKING FORWARD
Daemen will return to action October 30 at conference opponent Mercy (7-4-2).
