Women’s Soccer Places Seven On All-Conference Teams Septuplet Contributed To Wildcats' First ECC Tournament Run Since 2018 11/12/2021 1:15:00 PM By: By Joe Kraus, Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen College women's soccer team saw seven of its players recognized when the East Coast Conference announced its all-conference teams for the 2021 season this afternoon. Freshman forward Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.), junior midfielder Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.), graduate student midfielder Sam Hanes (North Tonawanda, N.Y.), senior midfielder Grace Stranahan (Grand Island, N.Y.), junior defender Julia Eichel (Grand Island, N.Y.), freshman defender Baylin Tighe (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and junior goalkeeper Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) all represented the Wildcats. The seven selections mark a new team-high since Daemen joined the ECC in 2013, surpassing the four selections picked in 2019. Alyssa Diaz | Forward | Freshman | 2021 ECC Rookie of the Year, First Team All-ECC First player to win ECC Rookie of the Year since Daemen joined the conference in 2013 First multi-time winner for ECC Rookie of the Week (Oct. 18, Nov. 8) since former player Alyssa Mercado won three times in 2019 Made 15 starts and finished tied for sixth in goals (6) and points (16), the most in both categories for Daemen freshman since Jamie Boyar netted six goals and 16 points in 2016. Tatyjana Scalisi | Midfielder | Junior | First Team All-ECC One of seven players to start all 16 games this season, scored team-high seven goals (tied fourth among ECC leaders) in first season with Daemen after transferring from Division I Buffalo First ECC player to reach double-figure points this season (team-high 19 points, tied for fourth best among ECC leaders) Recorded four games with at least one point this season (career-high seven points in 9-0 win versus Lincoln on Sept. 26) Sam Hanes | Midfielder | Graduate Student | Second Team All-ECC Started in 14 games this season, finished with one goal and three assists (5 points total.) Scored lone goal of season in last 10 minutes of regulation at Bridgeport (2-2 draw on Oct. 16) Appeared in 64 games (43 starts), recorded seven goals and eight assists (22 points) in five-year career with Daemen Grace Stranahan | Midfielder | Senior | Second Team All-ECC Previously selected as Third Team All-ECC member in 2019 One of seven players to start all 16 games this season, finished with three goals and three assists (9 points total) Recorded 10th career goal versus Roberts Wesleyan (4-0 win on Sept. 29) and 10th career assist versus Clarion (2-1 win on Oct. 26) Julia Eichel | Defender | Junior | Second Team All-ECC One of seven players to start all 16 games this season Part of defensive unit that allowed 20 goals total this season (tied with Bridgeport for third fewest in ECC) Has now started in 33 of 35 career games with the Wildcats Baylin Tighe | Defender | Freshman | Second Team All-ECC ECC Rookie of the Week winner (Sept. 20) One of seven players to start all 16 games this season Recorded first career goal in 3-1 win at D'Youville on Sept. 18, finished with three points total Tori DeLappi | Goalkeeper | Junior | Third Team All-ECC Two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week (Sept. 13, Oct. 25) One of seven players to start all 16 games this season Recorded nine wins (tied second-best in ECC), 1.27 GAA (fourth-best in ECC) and three shutouts (fifth-best in ECC). Also stands at 11 career wins at end of season, joining Maddie Flores as only goalkeepers to record 10+ wins in Daemen career in program's NCAA era (2015 – present) The seven All-ECC honorees led Daemen to a 9-6-1 overall record and 7-1-1 in ECC play (8-3-1 last 12 games.) Daemen's season came to a close following a 2-0 loss to Mercy in the ECC Tournament semifinals on November 11 in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. This was Daemen's first conference tournament appearance since 2018. Daemen finished with a winning season for the third time in the program's NCAA era (2015 – present.) The previous two times came in 2017 (9-7-1) and 2019 (11-4-3.) This was also Daemen's sixth winning season since Dan Dolan took over the program in 2009. The seven wins also were the most for a Daemen team since their 11-1 finish in 2011 – their final season as a member of the now-defunct American Mideast Conference. Daemen entered 2021 with 17 returnees from the unorthodox 2020-21 academic year, including 10 who were part of the Wildcats' NCAA tournament team in 2019 when they finished 11-4-3 – the best season in the program's NCAA era (2015 – present.)
