KENMORE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team won three of their five matches today to open the Medaille Brunswick Invitational at Classic Lanes. It marks the third tournament of the 2021-22 season for the Wildcats who are competing against seven other teams: Medaille, D'Youville, Mercyhurst, Penn State Behrend, Pitt-Bradford, Roberts Wesleyan and Walsh.
After opening the day with an eight-pin setback (834-826) to Roberts Wesleyan, the Wildcats picked up back-to-back wins over Pitt-Bradford (1,022-825) and Penn State Behrend (752-728). A loss to Mercyhurst (967-788) interrupted the momentum, but Daemen finished the day strong with a 908-784 defeat of Walsh. All five matches were of the traditional variety.
The Wildcats sit in fourth place in the total pinfall standings with 4,296 pins after day one action. Tournament host Medaille leads the standings with 4,787 pins, followed by Mercyhurst (4,728) and Roberts Wesleyan (4,408).
Following today's results, the Wildcats' overall record sits at 12-12.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Juniors Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) and Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) were the lone Wildcats to see action in all five matches today. Bartosz rolled two 200+ games and led the team with a 198 average for the day. Nowak, who was named the MVP at the Mercyhurst Invitational last month, posted a 176.2 average today.
- Fifth-year senior Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) finished the day with a 179.8 average while seeing action in four matches.
- Bartosz, Nowak and Hasiotis all rolled 200+ games in the win over Pitt-Bradford, contributing to a season-high 1,022 pins in the match. It marked the second time this season that the Wildcats have hit 1,000+ pins in a match. Bartosz rolled a 256 - the high for all Daemen players today. Hasiotis was next with a 243, while Nowak rolled a 226.
- Bartosz also rolled a 223 in the loss to Roberts Wesleyan, and junior Nicole Bergeron (Lima, N.Y.) rolled a 203 to lead the way against Walsh. Bergeron had a 169.3 average while seeing action in three matches.
- Senior Christina Aldridge (Webster, N.Y.) chipped in with a 166.8 average across four matches today.
UP NEXT
The tournament resumes at 9 a.m. tomorrow with five Baker format matches on the docket. The Wildcats will face D'Youville, Medaille and Walsh before the tournament shifts to positional play.
