Daemen Men's Basketball Head Coach Mike MacDonald Quotes
February 9, 2021 – Roberts Wesleyan Postgame

On the winning the team's first game in 341 days...
"You can look at it that way or you could say you know what, we didn't lose a game until late January. It's the longest we've ever been undefeated. So I guess there are always two ways to look at anything."

On putting senior guard into the starting lineup...
"We just thought that it helped our rotation a little bit better. Kyle is a senior. He's experienced. He started for us before, last year when we had some injuries. And we thought it could help his play and it could help [the] rotation of our bench a little bit better. And I thought Kyle play great. He didn't shoot it great other than those first two threes, but he had eight assists, his all-around floor game, his defense was really good and kind of what you'd expect from a senior. So you know, when things get going, become tight, you sometimes lean on an older guy and a little more experienced guy and that was Kyle's role. So you know, he definitely helped us out with that move."

On the 42-point outing of Andrew Sischo...
"Obviously, whatever we do he's going to be featured heavily, and ho-hum, another good game, double-double for Sischo. But, I thought by getting that lead wasn't just necessarily Sischo. Obviously, he was a big part of it. I think he had about 15 points in the first 15 minutes of the game, but then they really were crowding him and I thought other guys helped build it up. If you look at it, we scored 93 points. We turned it over to much, we didn't make a lot of threes and we still scored 93 points. So that's a really good sign for me. I think other guys were involved, and I think we're going to have a day where we make a bunch of threes and then it's going to be crazy, I think, when it does happen. But, obviously it's no secret, we're going to go through Andrew, the offense is going to go through Andrew."

On Da'Shawn Hines earning more minutes...
"Great, great story, right? Local kid, went to school right across the street at Amherst High School. And you know, you get what you earn. You'd be a hypocrite as a coach if you tell your guys at all times how you practice and then you don't give him a chance to play. And, he has definitely earned it in practice where he's been very good. So, give him some minutes, we were in foul trouble with the guards between Juston Johnson and Ryan Salzberg and D'Shawn came in and played very steady. He usually makes the right decision when he's in there, and that's what you want him to do, make the right decision, play good defense. And sometimes the right decision is knocking down a couple threes, which he did."
