Duo has led Daemen to first-ever NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearance

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) and Sean Fasoyiro (Houston, Texas) of Daemen College have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District first team following a vote of member coaches from NCAA Division II institutions. The duo has led Daemen to its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight after claiming the East Region championship with a 71-70 victory last week over nationally ranked St. Thomas Aquinas.

Sischo, a 6-foot-9 redshirt senior center, earns All-District first team honors for the third consecutive season. The Daemen big man is again a viable All-American candidate and is averaging 26.7 points and 12.8 rebounds per game while shooting 63.5% from the field. He enters the Elite Eight ranking fourth in scoring and first in rebounding among the Division II national leaders. Sischo, who was a consensus All-American last season, also leads the nation with 12 double-doubles in 14 games played this season. He has scored at least 24 points in 13 games, including a game-high 25 in Daemen's regional championship victory after which he named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Sischo was named the East Coast Conference Player of the Year for the third straight season earlier this month.

Sischo continues to put his stamp on both the Daemen and ECC record books. Earlier this season, he became Daemen's all-time leading scorer, surpassing the previous mark of 1,962 points set by Robert Robinson from 1988-92. Shortly thereafter, Sischo surpassed 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in the same game (February 20 vs. Mercy), becoming just the second 2,000/1,000 player in ECC history. Already Daemen's all-time leader in made field goals, he became the ECC leader in a regular season win over St. Thomas Aquinas on February 27. In 103 career games, Sischo has totaled 2,194 points, 1,085 rebounds, 870 field goals and 102 blocked shots. He stands 53 points shy of the ECC's all-time record held by STAC's Justin Reyes (2,247) and 18 rebounds shy of Daemen's all-time record held by Hall of Famer Alex Nwora (1,103). His career scoring average (21.3 ppg) is also a Daemen record and he ranks second among all active Division II players in career points (Dalton Bolon, West Liberty, 2,232 points).

Fasoyiro, a 6-foot-3 guard, has made an immediate impact in his first season with the program. The graduate transfer appeared in 81 games over three seasons at Franklin Pierce, but has taken his game to new heights as a Wildcat. He is producing 13.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 46.6% from the field - all career-highs. After posting one double-double in his time at FPU, Fasoyiro has doubled up three times this season, including a 12-point, 10-rebound performance in the regional final. The Houston native who attended secondary school in Canada has reached double-figure scoring in 11 games. He scored a career-high 31 points in a win over D'Youville on February 24 and was recognized earlier this month with an All-ECC first team selection.

Sischo and Fasoyiro were joined on the NABC All-District first team by three STAC players - Osbel Caraballo, Demetre Roberts and Grant Singleton - as well as Dominican's (N.Y.) Jalen Burgess. All-District second team selections included Nyack's Joel Bailey, Bloomfield's Rich Chapman, Roberts Wesleyan's Reggie Clark, Caldwell's Anthony Cooper and Molloy's James Montgomery. St. Thomas Aquinas head coach Tobin Anderson was named the District Coach of the Year.

The NABC will announce the Division II All-America teams and Player of the Year later this week.

Daemen (10-5) is the No. 8 seed in the Elite Eight and will face top-seeded West Texas A&M (17-2) this Wednesday, March 24 in the national quarterfinals at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. Tip-off is slated for 3:45 EDT.
