AMHERST, NY - While the outcome wasn't what they had hoped for, Daemen women's soccer felt glad to be back on the pitch again. In what was their first game in 491 days, the Wildcats lost to St. Rose, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Karrer Field. Today's contest was also a rematch between these two teams since the Wildcats lost to the Golden Knights, 4-0, in their first NCAA Tournament game in program history on Nov. 22, 2019.
HIGHLIGHTS
- At the 27:47 mark of the first half, freshman Samantha Diaz connected off a pass from fellow classmate Sabrina Mazza to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead.
- At the 82nd minute, freshman Isabella O'Clair scored unassisted to give St. Rose a 2-0 lead, and ultimately secured the victory.
- St. Rose outshot Daemen 22-3 in the contest and 13-2 in the second half. The Golden Knights also outedged Daemen in corner kicks, 11-2.
- In her Daemen debut, sophomore forward Tatyjana Scalisi had two of Daemen's three shots on goal against the Golden Knights. The Williamsville native transferred to Daemen after playing her freshman season at Division I Buffalo. Freshman midfielder Emily Mogavero (Buffalo, N.Y.) provided the third shot for the Wildcats.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Tori Delappi (Medina, Ohio) recorded seven saves (four in the first half) for Daemen. This was her fourth overall appearance and third career start with the Wildcats.
GAME NOTES
- Saturday marked the first of six contests on the abbreivated spring schedule which runs through May 2. The Wildcats' 2020 season had been delayed to the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- St. Rose now leads Daemen 3-0 in the all-time series.
- Daemen returns 17 players from their 2019 team, including six who started at least 10 games. The Wildcats finished with an 11-4-3 record in 2019, their most wins in a single season since 2012 (11-9).
ON THE HORIZON
Daemen travels east to Rochester on April 3 where they'll face long-time rival Roberts Wesleyan with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.
