SPARKILL, N.Y. - In their return to East Coast Conference play this afternoon, the Daemen men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to host St. Thomas Aquinas at the Riley Family Tennis Courts.
Daemen dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in ECC play with the loss. STAC, which just began its season this week, improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
DOUBLES REPORT
In the No. 1 doubles position,
Ben Davis (Rochester, N.Y.) and
Sam Greco (Amherst, N.Y.) put up a good battle before falling 6-4 to STAC's Kas Roosch and Ivan Laiz. It was a similar story on the No. 2 court where
Jose Williamson III (Minneapolis, Minn.) and
Phillip Vance (Orchard Park, N.Y.) fell by the same 6-4 final to Lennart Lehmann and Enej Hasicevic.
Alvaro Barranca and Matthw Corsie completed STAC's doubles sweep with a 6-2 win on the No. 3 court over
Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) and
Ross Belen (Marlboro, N.Y.).
SINGLES REPORT
Hasicevic opened singles play with 6-1, 6-0 win on the No. 5 court, extending STAC's lead. Roosch (No. 2 singles: 6-3, 6-1) and Corsie (No. 6 singles 6-2, 7-5) followed suit.
Barranco (No. 3 singles: 6-3, 7-5) and Lehmann (No. 1 singles: 6-3, 6-4) added two more Spartan wins.
The lone match to go past two sets was on the No. 4 court where Laiz outlasted Greco 6-3, 4-6, 1-0.
