Wildcats Suffer 1-0 Loss At Slippery Rock

Early Goal Holds Up For Hosts As Daemen Drops To 1-2-0 On The Year

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team remained unbeaten on the year following a 1-0 victory over Daemen College today on the SRU campus. Daemen dropped to 1-2-0 on the year, while the hosts improved to 2-0-2.

Today's game marked the first meeting between Daemen and Slippery Rock since the 2015 season. SRU has now prevailed in all three matchups between the schools.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Rock opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game when senior Mo Kanani headed home a corner kick by classmate Brian McCarthy.
  • SRU posted a 13-0 edge in overall shots in the first half and finished with a 20-6 advantage overall. The hosts also held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • Senior Carlos Espana (Madrid, Spain) accounted for two of Daemen's four shots on goal.
  • Senior Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) went the distance in goal for the Wildcats and made six saves. Junior Hossam Aly stopped four shots for The Rock.
     

GAME NOTES

  • Daemen was picked ninth in the preseason East Coast Conference poll, while SRU is ranked fourth in the preseason Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West poll. The Rock did not play last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and posted an 8-9-2 record in 2019.
  • Today marked the third of a traditional 16-game schedule for the Wildcats which runs through November 6.


UP NEXT

The Wildcats return to action Wednesday (Sept. 15) when they travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on Le Moyne College in a non-conference tilt.
