Newcomers Pace Men's Cross Country at Season Opening Event 9/4/2021 12:47:00 PM By: Tom McDermott FRANK DILLON MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL - FULL RESULTS SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team opened the 2021 season today by placing fifth out of six teams at the Frank Dillon Memorial Tournament hosted by Le Moyne College. Seven schools were represented at the event, but only six schools had enough runners to be eligible for the team results. SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry had four runners finish among the top-eight finishers en route to claiming the team title with a score of 44. SUNY ESF narrowly edged SUNY Delhi (46), while host Le Moyne (55) placed third. SUNY Broome (95), Daemen (113) and SUNY Morrisville (165) rounded out the field. Freshman Matthew Bartolotta of Le Moyne claimed the individual title, as he completed the 6K course in 19:39.0. Daemen returns to action next Saturday (Sept. 11) when it hosts the Daemen Duels at Bassett Park in Williamsville, N.Y. HIGHLIGHTS Daemen had a total of seven runners compete today. Sophomores Phil Ceccarelli (Hamburg, N.Y.), Connor O'Brien (Hamburg, N.Y.) and Steven Blatto (Lancaster, N.Y.) all made their collegiate cross country debuts today and they all posted a top-20 finish to pace the Wildcats. Ceccarelli was the top Daemen finisher and placed 15th out of 65 runners with a time of 21:43.5. O'Brien placed 17th (21:53.4) and Blatto finished 19th (21:59.8). Junior John Bruggman (Batavia, N.Y.) was one of only two Daemen runners to compete today with any previous collegiate experience and he placed 28th with a time of 22:40.1. Freshman Nolan Robillard (Hamburg, N.Y.) and sophomore David Schwinger (Buffalo, N.Y.) also made their collegiate debuts today. Robillard placed 39th (23:28.6) and Schwinger finished 45th (23:56.3). Redshirt junior Alexander Reynolds (Olean, N.Y.) rounded out the Daemen runners and placed 52nd (25:20.1).
