SYRACUSE, , N.Y. - Graduate student Alessandro Otte scored two goals to lead Le Moyne College to a 4-1 victory over Daemen University in non-conference NCAA Division II men's soccer action here this afternoon.
Le Moyne, which is a member of Northeast-10 Conference, improved to 4-3-5 on the year, while Daemen dropped to 4-6-2. The Wildcats are a member of the East Coast Conference.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The host Dolphins took control early, as they scored twice in the first 1:13 of the game. Sophomore Michael Sparkes headed home a pass from redshirt sophomore Jack Goodrich at the 1:04 mark, and the Dolphins struck again just nine seconds later when freshman Cameron Stuart netted his team-leading fourth goal of the year.
- Le Moyne increased its lead to 3-0 just over five minutes later when Otte converted a penalty kick.
- Otte's second tally in the 29th minute, off a feed from Stuart, gave the hosts a commanding 4-0 lead.
- The Dolphins took a 4-0 lead into halftime and maintained that lead until the Wildcats got a goal from senior Derek Bartlo (Williamsville, N.Y.) with under five minutes to play.
- The Dolphins posted a 14-6 advantage in total shots and an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.
- Graduate student Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) started in net for the Wildcats and stopped four shots before giving way to junior Harry Firth (Reading, England) in the 73rd minute. Firth did not register a save over the final 17:22. Freshman Matthew Gera made his first career start in net for the Dolphins and was credited with three saves.
GAME NOTES
- Bartlo leads the team in goals (5), assists (3) and points (13).
- Tonight's game marked the ninth all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Dolphins. Le Moyne has prevailed in all nine meetings.
- Daemen entered the game ranked third among ECC teams in fewest goals allowed. The Wildcats have limited eight of their first 12 opponents to one goal or less.
