Daemen Has Earned Weekly Conference Awards In Each Of The Last Four Weeks

10/3/2022 3:26:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. -- Daemen University sophomore right side hitter Kate Ryan (Buffalo, N.Y.) has been named the East Coast Conference Player of the Week for matches played September 26 through October 2. The official announcement was made in the ECC's weekly sport report, released this afternoon.

Ryan made her fifth appearance of the season on Wednesday in Daemen's 3-0 win at Roberts Wesleyan. She played in all three sets, and led the Wildcats offensively in the match, averaging 4.66 kills per set. She notched a season and career high total of 14 kills in the match, and earned a .294 hitting percentage. The 5-11 sophomore added two digs and an ace in the match.

In the five matches Ryan has played in this season, she totals 31 kills for an average of 2.82 kills per set.

Ryan picks up her first career ECC weekly award, and is the third Daemen player to take home the Player of the Week honor (outside hitters Maggie Burns (Louisville, Ky.) and Sam Logan (Eden, N.Y.) picked up the same honor in Week 3 and Week 5).

This is the fourth straight week the Wildcats have earned awards, and Ryan becomes the seventh Wildcat to earn an ECC weekly award this season. Along with Burns, Jasmine Brundage (East Aurora, N.Y.) earned Defensive Player of the Week in Week 3. Last week, Daemen swept the weekly awards, with Logan earning Player of the Week, Vanessa Kuliga (Glenview, Ill.) taking home Defensive Player of the Week, Olivia Alessi (East Aurora, N.Y.) winning her second Setter of the Week, and freshman Nahirka Malpica (Caguas, P.R.) winning Rookie of the Week.

Ryan and the Wildcats host longtime rival Le Moyne on Wednesday at 6 PM, and get back to conference play on Saturday when they host Mercy at 1 PM in the annual Team IMPACT match.
