WORCESTER, Mass. – Daemen University and host Assumption University battled to a 2-2 draw this afternoon at Brian Kelly Stadium on the Assumption campus. It marked the final non conference game of the year for Daemen, which moved to to 1-8-2 on the year. Assumption, a member of the Northeast-10 Conference, is now 3-3-4.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Daemen struck for two goals in the first 16 minutes of action to take an early 2-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the year at 12:42 off a nice feed from senior Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.).
  • The Wildcats struck again just three minutes later when Scalisi took a pass from graduate student Grace Stranahan (Grand Island, N.Y.) and slid a low shot along the turf and into the lower right corner of the Assumption net, It marked the second goal of the year for Scalisi, who netted Daemen's lone goal in a 1-0 win at St. Thomas Aquinas this past weekend.
  • Assumption forced Daemen senior goalkeeper Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) to make two saves early in the second half, and the game remained 2-0 until the 69th minute when sophomore Haleigh Ward scored off a pas from classmate Maya Demello.
  • The Greyhounds scored again just five minutes later when sophomore Ashley Wenzel netted her second goal of the year.
  • Both teams had scoring chances down the stretch and the game was still knotted at 2-2 when Assumption was awarded a penalty kick with just 1:40 to play following a Daemen foul in the box. Demello lined up for the kick but sent it off the right cross bar. The rebound came to Assumption's Annie Irwin and her shot from in close was saved by DeLappi.
