ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Sophomore Natalia Piotrowski scored two goals to lead regionally ranked Molloy University to a 4-0 victory over Daemen University in NCAA Division II women's soccer action here this afternoon.
Molloy, which is ranked fifth in the East Region by the United Soccer Coaches, improved to 9-3-2 overall and 5-1-0 in the East Coast Conference. Daemen dropped to 1-9-2 overall and 1-3-0 in the league.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Lions scored all four of their goals in the second half.
- Piotrowski opened the scoring nine minutes into the second half when she scored off a corner kick by junior Sarah Tappeto.
- Tappeto and Piotrowski teamed up again in the 76th minute when Piotrowski headed home a cross by Tappeto. It marked the 15th assist of the year for Tappeto, who leads all Division II players in assists so far this season.
- The hosts converted two penalty shots in the final 10 minutes to close out the scoring.
- Molloy out shot the Wildcats 11-1 in the second half and the hosts finished with a 19-5 advantage in shots overall (10-2 in shots on goal).
- Freshman goalkeeper Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) made her second start of the year for Daemen and registered a season-high six saves.
- Junior Shannon Kilian made two saves for Molloy en route to her league-leading eighth shutout of the season.
GAME NOTES
- Today's game marked ninth all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Lions. Molloy owns a 6-3-0 advantage in the all-time series.
- Today's game was the last in a stretch of seven-straight road games Daemen has played dating back to Sept. 14.
