ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Molloy University men's soccer team remained unbeaten in league play following a 2-0Â victory over Daemen University in NCAA Division II men's soccer action here this afternoon.
Molloy, which is ranked eighth in the East Region by the United Soccer Coaches, ran its unbeaten streak to seven-straight games and improved to 7-2-5 overall and 5-0-1 in East Coast Conference play. Daemen dropped to 4-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the ECC.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The game remained scoreless until the 32nd minute when junior Ryan Dobson scored for the Lions. Sophomore Gio Fabiano took the initial shot from the left flank, which was saved by Daemen netminder Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain). Dobson got his head on the rebound and sent the ball into the upper right corner for this sixth goal of the year.
- The remainder of the half produced limited scoring scoring chances for both teams and the host Lions took a 1-0 lead into the break.
- Molloy secured the win when Fabiano scored his team-leading eighth goal of the year with just over 10 minutes to play. Once again Lerma Escobar made the save on an initial shot by senior J.P. Rodriguez, but Fabiano was there to knock home the rebound.
- The Lions posted a 16-6 advantage in total shots and an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.
- Lerma Escobar, the reining ECC Defensive Player of the Week, turned away six shots for the Wildcats. Graduate student Nick Conklu was credited with one save en route to his fifth shutout of the year.
GAME NOTES
- Today's game marked the ninth all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Lions. Molloy has now prevailed in the last three meetings and owns a 7-2-0 advantage in the all-time series.
- Daemen entered the game ranked third among ECC teams in fewest goals allowed. The Wildcats have limited eight of its first 11 opponents to one goal or less.

Daemen returns to non-conference play Wednesday (Oct. 12) when it travels to Syracuse, N.Y. to face Le Moyne College.
