The Wildcats Opened Up The Season With 3-0 Record For Second Time Since 2020-21 Season

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University women's basketball team remains ranked second among 10 teams in the second NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America East Region Women's Basketball Media Poll for 2022-23, as released in the poll this afternoon. The Wildcats have been ranked in 36 consecutive D2SIDA regional polls, dating back to early January 2019.

The Wildcats were ranked No. 2 in the first D2SIDA regional poll, released last week. With their 2-0 start to the season, Daemen earned a No. 20 ranking in the first D2SIDA National poll last Tuesday.

Daemen opened the season with a 3-0 record for the second time since the 2020-21 season. The Wildcats picked up wins against nationally-ranked Pace and Felician in the season-opening Redhawks Classic tournament, and remained undefeated on Wednesday with a big win over Le Moyne in a 69-66 thriller to snap a five-game losing streak to the Dolphins, and beat Le Moyne for the first time since 2013. The Dolphins are ranked No. 4 in the East Region. Daemen was slated to host Saint Michael's of the NE-10 on Sunday, but the game was postponed due to the winter storm that dumped feet of snow in and around Buffalo over the weekend.

Graduate transfer Paige Emborsky (Newfane, N.Y.) has mad an immediate impact on the Wildcats in her first three games in a Daemen jersey. The 5-foot-6 guard leads the team with 45 points on the season, averaging 15.5 points per game. She leads the Wildcats in shooting, both from the field and beyond the arc, with 15-of-23 field goals made, as well as a team-high 10-of-16 three pointers made.

Junior guard Kaytlyn Matz (Johnsburg, Ill.) put together an impressive outing against Le Moyne on Wednesday, shooting 57 percent from the field, finishing 4-of-7, and 80 percent from beyond the arc, banking 3-of-4 three's for a season-high 15 points. Matz also pulled down three rebounds, added an assist and a steal in the win. She ranks second on the team in points through three games, totaling 26 points on the season.

The Wildcats will travel to play at Bloomsburg on Sunday, Nov. 27 in a 2 PM tip-off against the Huskies.

Ranked No. 2 in the region for the second straight week, Daemen accumulated 54 points in the poll. Bentley collected all six first place votes and sits atop the poll with 60 points. Jefferson (47 pts), Le Moyne (40) and Assumption (28) round out the top five. Southern New Hampshire (26), New Haven (18), St. Thomas Aquinas (18), Post (13) and Southern Connecticut State (12) are the final five teams in the poll.

The D2SIDA East Region media poll is conducted by sports information professionals representing the East Coast Conference, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and Northeast-10 Conference.
