WILMINGTON, DEL. – It was the start of another weekend of competition for Daemen College women's bowling when they posted a 2-3 record in a quintet of Baker format matches on the first day of the Wildcat DII Invitational this afternoon. The three-day event is hosted by Wilmington University with all 10 teams competing at Bowlerama in New Castle, Del.
Daemen, which hoisted the Brother Patrick Lacey Memorial Tournament title last weekend, started the day by falling to host Wilmington, 1,010-816. The Wildcats then lost to Felician University by just 13 pins, 876-863. Next, Daemen competed against Caldwell University but lost to the Cougars, 1,039-951.
The final two matches of the day brought the Wildcat keglers back to their winning ways to conclude the Baker format of the event. In the fourth match, Daemen out-rolled Bloomfield, 990-906. Daemen then won their fifth and final match of the day by knocking off Mercyhurst, 976-783.
Overall, Daemen currently stands in fourth place with 4,596 pins. Caldwell leads all 10 teams in this category with 4,671 pins. Mercyhurst is in second place with 4,650 pins. Molloy College is the only team ahead of Daemen at the end of the first day in first place with 4,650 pins. Host Wilmington University rounds out the top five with 4,596 pins.
Today's results improves Daemen's overall record to 29-27 this season.
The Wildcat Division II Invitational continues in Wilmington tomorrow with five traditionally scored matches – their first against #25 Kutztown at 10:10 a.m. The invitational concludes in a bracket-format Sunday morning.
