WILMINGTON, DEL. – After winning their final two Baker format matches Friday, Daemen College women's bowling rolled off that momentum and posted a 4-1 record in a quintet of traditionally scored matches to stand in second place overall through two days of the Wildcat DII Invitational, which completed this afternoon. The three-day event is hosted by Wilmington University with all 10 teams competing at Bowlerama in New Castle, Del.

Daemen started the day off strong by defeating #25 Kutztown by a whopping 315 pins, 1,089-774. Daemen then won its fourth consecutive match of the invitational with a 60-pin victory over Molloy, 976-916. In what was the closest finish for Daemen thus far this weekend, the Wildcats lost to host Wilmington by just seven pins, 987-980. Daemen is now 3-6 this season in matches decided by 10 or less pins. This was the first time Daemen finished in this scenario since knocking off Pitt-Bradford by five pins, 861-856, on Dec. 4, 2021 – their final match of the Fall 2021 session.

The final two matches of the day brought the Wildcat keglers back to their winning ways to conclude the traditional scoring format of the event. In the fourth match, Daemen defeated Chestnut Hill, 952-829. Daemen then won their fifth and final match of the day by knocking off off New Jersey City, 1,002-714. Collectively, through five matches, Daemen rolled a total pin fall of 4,999 pins and an average of 999.8 pins per match.

Junior Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) led all five Daemen bowlers in total pin fall with 1,051 pins and crossed the 200-pin plateau three times, including a team-best 270 score against New Jersey City. Bartosz also knocked down a team-high 210.2 pins per match.

Sophomore Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) finished second on the team in total pin fall with 1,022 pins and crossed the 200-pin mark four times. Her best performance on the day came against Molloy when she rolled a team-high 223. Gizicki finished second in team average (204.4.)

Graduate student Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) posted third among Daemen bowlers with a total pin fall of 1,007. She led the blue-and-white with scores of 224 and 236 against Kutztown and Wilmington, respectively. Hasiotis also finished third in team average (201.4.)

Junior Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) and senior Christina Aldridge (Wester, N.Y.) both competed in all five matches today. Nowak posted a team-high 248 versus Kutztown and finished with a 994 total pin fall. Aldridge posted a 209 in the win over Kutztown and finished with a 925 total pin fall.

With the strong day, Daemen now stands in second place with 9,595 pins. They only trail host Wilmington by 56 pins in the standings, who head into Sunday with 9,651 pins. Mercyhurst dropped to third place with 9,536 pins and Caldwell is now in fourth with 9,322 pins. Molloy rounds out the top five with 9,258 pins.

Since the season resumed on Feb. 12, Daemen has won 13 of their last 19 matches and are 33-28 overall this season. By knocking down 1,000 or more pins in matches against #25 Kutztown (1,089) and New Jersey City (1,002) today, the Wildcats have now accomplished this feat four times this season. Today was the first time Daemen crossed this plateau since recording 1,022 pins against Pitt-Bradford on Nov. 6, 2021.

The Wildcat Division II Invitational concludes in Wilmington with a bracket-format Sunday morning. Daemen and Wilmington will square off again – this time in the first round of bracket play – at 10 a.m.
