Wildcat Cheerleaders Place Second At Queen City Championship 3/12/2022 3:35:00 PM ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - After going nearly two years between competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Daemen College cheerleading team was back in action for a second consecutive weekend and earned a second place finish at the Queen City Championship hosted by Shout Cheer and Dance at the ADPRO Sports Fieldhouse today. The Wildcats were seeking to extend their streak of first place finishes, but came up five points short today. Three-time national champion Elmira College claimed first place honors. Since being elevated to varsity team status prior to the 2018-19 academic year, the Daemen cheerleading team had placed first in all seven competitions it had entered prior to today, including last week's medalist finish at the Great Lakes Championship in Erie, Pa. Today's competition was the last for Daemen during the 2021-22 academic year. It also marked the final collegiate competition for seniors Samantha Chick (Niagara Falls, N.Y.), Ja'Veana Garnett (Buffalo, N.Y.), Alyssa Gennaro (Clarence, N.Y.), Daniela Mateo (Bronx, N.Y.) and Alayna Salzler (Arcade, N.Y.). The quintet was honored for their service to the program in a Senior Day ceremony last month. Daemen College features the only NCAA Division II athletics program in the Buffalo-Niagara region, sponsoring 17 intercollegiate teams.
