MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Daemen University men's tennis team got singles wins from juniors Phillip Vance (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, Ont.), but it wasn't enough to lift them past the host Allegheny Gators this evening as they suffered a 6-3 setback. With Allegheny hosting, the match was played under the NCAA Division III scoring format.

The Wildcats got on the board when their top doubles pair of junior Luis de Vuyst (Antwerp, Belgium) and sophomore Sam Greco (Amherst, N.Y.) scored an 8-6 win, but the Gators picked up points on the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles courts to take the lead. For de Vuyst and Greco, it marked their fifth win as a doubles pair this season.

In singles action, Allegheny's Anton Hedlund continued his strong freshman season, winning his seventh match in the Gators' No. 1 position to set the tone. The Gators would add points on the fourth, fifth and sixth singles courts to clinch the victory.

Appearing in the No. 2 position of Daemen's lineup today, Vance picked up his fifth singles win of the season, defeating Adam Shinomiya in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-1). It marked the 11th singles win of his career, and his five this season establishes a new career-high.

On the third singles court, Laplante defeated Wonjoon Cho in match that also went three sets (7-5, 2-6, 6-3). Laplante now leads the Wildcats with six singles wins this season.
