Men’s Tennis Out-Clawed By RIT Sunday, 7-2

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Playing on back-to-back days, the Daemen men's tennis team continued its spring season with a 7-2 loss against the RIT Tigers in a non-conference dual match Sunday afternoon at the Midtown Athletic Club. The Wildcats were coming off a 7-0 loss to unbeaten Queens in East Coast Conference play Saturday night. Sunday's match against the Tigers was played under the Division III scoring format which awards points for each match.

  • Daemen is now 3-6 during the spring portion of the 2021-22 season with all three wins coming since a 7-2 win at Houghton on March 9. Since a 6-1 win versus St. Vincent on March 19, Daemen is now 1-4 over their last five matches.
  • After de Vuyst and Greco won the first doubles match for Daemen, RIT bounced back to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. De Vuyst then picked up a win in first singles against RIT's Berko. This would be Daemen's final win of the day as the Tigers regrouped and won the final five singles matches to secure the win.
  • Today marked the fifth all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Tigers. RIT is now 4-1 in this series, which began on February 22, 2015.

WHAT'S NEXT
Daemen returns to action on Friday, April 8 when they host District Columbia at 7:30 at the Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville, N.Y. This will be the third of six East Coast Conference matchups scheduled for the Wildcats this season.
