WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. -- Despite victories in singles play from Phillip Vance (Orchard Park., N.Y.) and Ross Belen (Marlboro, N.Y.), the Daemen men's tennis continued its spring season with a 5-2 loss against the University of District Columbia Firebirds in East Coast Conference play Friday night at the Miller Tennis Center. This marked the Wildcats' third consecutive loss after defeats against both Queens and RIT last weekend.

MATCH NOTES
  • Daemen is now 3-8 during the spring portion of the 2021-22 season with all three wins coming since a 7-2 win at Houghton on March 9. Since a 6-1 win versus St. Vincent on March 19, Daemen is now 1-5 over their last six matches. Tonight's finish against the Firebirds also marked their third consecutive loss.
  • District Columbia won all three doubles matches to earn the point and followed up with victories in first and second singles for an overall 3-0 advantage. The Wildcats then got on the scoreboard in third singles when Vance won by retirement after UDC's Estevez Hernandez bowed out during the third set. The Firebirds later added two more matches to their win column in fourth and sixth singles to round out their team success. Belen, however, recorded Daemen's second and final win of the night as he defeated Bedforth in fifth singles action.
  • Tonight marked the eighth all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Firebirds and the first meeting in Western New York since April 13, 2018 – an 8-1 win for District Columbia. District Columbia now has an all-time record of 7-1 against Daemen since the teams first squared off on March 21, 2014.
