Walsh Tops Daemen Tennis Saturday Afternoon

NORTH CANTON, OHIO -- In what was the back half of playing consecutive days for a second straight weekend, the Daemen men's tennis team continued its spring season with a 7-0 loss against the Walsh Cavaliers of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in a non-conference dual match Saturday afternoon at the North Canton Racquet Club. This marked the Wildcats' fourth consecutive loss, which came shortly after a 5-2 defeat against District Columbia in East Coast Conference play late Friday night at the Miller Tennis Center.

MATCH NOTES
  • Daemen is now 3-9 during the spring portion of the 2021-22 season with all three wins coming since a 7-2 win at Houghton on March 9. Since a 6-1 win versus St. Vincent on March 19, Daemen is now 1-6 over their last seven matches. Today's finish against the Cavaliers also marked their fourth consecutive loss, a stretch since a 7-0 loss versus Queens in ECC play on April 2.
  • Saturday was the sixth time Daemen was shutout by an opponent this season and the second time this month (7-0 loss versus Queens on April 2.) On Saturday, the Cavaliers won all three doubles matches to earn the point and later won all six singles matches to complete the overall shutout. All the singles matches were completed in two sets.
  • Saturday was the fourth all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Cavaliers and the first since February 16, 2019 in North Canton. (Walsh 6-1 win.) Walsh has now won all four of these meetings since the series began on October 11, 2016.

WHAT'S NEXT
Daemen returns to action Wednesday, April 13 when they host St. Thomas Aquinas at 2:30 at the Miller in Williamsville, N.Y. The Wildcats and Spartans are then scheduled to square off again Saturday, April 16 in Sparkill, N.Y. A time for this match will be announced later this week. These are the fourth and fifth East Coast Conference matchups scheduled for the Wildcats this season.
