WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. -- The Daemen University men's cross country team finished second out of seven teams for the second consecutive meet on Saturday morning in the Daemen Alumni Invitational at Bassett Park in Williamsville.
DAEMEN ALUMNI INVITATIONAL FULL RESULTS
The Wildcats placed three runners in the top-10. Junior
Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) finished third overall in the field of 65 runners with a time of 27:17.8. Junior
Connor O'Brien (Hamburg, N.Y.) picked up his highest finish of the season, crossing the finish line sixth overall and posting a time of 28:14.9.
Junior
Phil Ceccarelli (Hamburg, N.Y.) rounded out the top 10 at 28:48.6 in the 8K race.
Seven schools were represented at the event. California (Pa.) had six runners come in among the top-10 finishers en route to claiming the team title with a score of 20. Daemen finished second with a score of 43. Houghton (84), SUNY Corning Community College (126), Hilbert (159), Bryant & Stratton (161), and D'Youville (167) rounded out the teams.
Cal (Pa.) sophomore Ian Zimmerman took home the individual title, completing the 8K course in 26:52.8.
Daemen has a week off next weekend, but will run in the Equality Invitational in two weeks on Sunday, Sept. 25 in Colchester, V.T. hosted by St. Michael's. The men and women will all race the same distance -- 8K -- in the Equality Invitational.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Daemen had a total of 12 runners compete today.
- Moote finished as Daemen's top finisher for the second straight race. His 27:17.8 finish marks his third-fastest 8K time in his collegiate career.
- O'Brien tied a career-high finish. He placed sixth in the Daemen Duels in 2021, but he shaved off over a minute and a half from his sixth place finish at the same course last season (29:48.4).
- Freshman Aidan Kincaid (Orchard Park, N.Y.) made his collegiate debut, placing 11th overall and fourth on the Wildcats with a time of 29:43.2.
- Senior John Bruggman (Batavia, N.Y.) earned his highest finish of the season, placing 13th with a time of 29:50.3.
- Junior Steven Blatto (Lancaster, N.Y.) finished 15th overall with a time of 29:58.8.
- Junior John Balch rounded out the Daemen scoring, posting a time of 30:14.3 for a 20th place finish.
- Senior Dominic Clementi (Barker, N.Y.) ran in his first race of the season, finishing right behind Balch in 21st place with a time of 30:36.0.
- Juniors David Schwinger (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Laertes Cushing (Alfred, N.Y.) along with sophomore Nolan Robillard (Hamburg, N.Y.) also figured into the race today. Robillard finished 23rd overall with a time of 30:45.1, Schwinger placed 25th with a time of 31:24.7 and Cushing posted a time of 32:59.4 to finish 28th.
- Redshirt-senior Alexander Reynolds (Olean, N.Y.) rounded out the Daemen runners, posting his highest finish of the season as he placed 31st with a time of 32:59.4.
