Big Second Half Lifts Queens To 3-0 Win Over Daemen

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Queens College ran its winning streak to four games following a 3-0 victory over Daemen University in East Coast Conference men's soccer action this afternoon at Varsity Soccer Field on the Queens campus.

Queens, which was coming off a 3-0 upset of nationally-ranked Southern Connecticut State this past Wednesday, improved to 6-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the ECC. Daemen fell to 2-3-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the league.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Queens scored all three of its goals in the second half.
  • The hosts broke a scoreless tie just 54 seconds into the second half when the Knights were awarded a penalty kick after sophomore Adolfo Martinez Paquet was fouled in the Daemen box. Martinez Paquet then sent the penalty kick into the lower right corner for his team-leading fifth goal of the year.
  • Daemen goaltender Marcos Lerma Escobar (Zaragoza, Spain) kept the Wildcats within striking distance with several nice saves until late in the game when the Knights secured the win with two goals in the span of eight minutes.
  • Junior Milton Sionakedes scored his first goal of the year in the 70th minute and freshman Bryce Cherry closed out the scoring in the 78th minute.
  • Queens finished with a 21-4 edge in total shots and an 8-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • Lerma Escobar finished with five saves for the Wildcats. Senior Dario Giovanni Cruz played 85 minutes in goal for the hosts and was credited with two saves.

GAME NOTES

  • Today's game marked the ninth all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Knights. Queens has prevailed in three of the last four meetings and owns a 7-2 advantage in the all-time series.
  • Daemen had limited each of its first five opponents to just one goal prior to today.

Daemen returns to non-conference play Wednesday (Sept. 21) when it travels to Philadelphia, Pa. to face Chestnut Hill College.
