Men's Tennis Falls To Allegheny

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - The Daemen University men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to Allegheny College this afternoon in a match played at South Towns Tennis Club. The match was originally set to be played outdoors at Miller Tennis Center but was forced indoors due to rain.

Daemen falls to 0-2 on the year, while the visiting Gators improve to 2-0.

Allegheny took two of the three doubles matches to earn the one point as per NCAA Division II scoring. Allegheny's team of Anton Hedlund and Ethan Carr opened the match with a 6-3 win over Daemen's Alex Lumanog (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Andy Gibson (Temecula, Calif.) at No./ 1 doubles. The Gators secured the doubles point after Evan Nelson and Will Jarvie defeated Adam Pasierb (Lancaster, N.Y.) and Jayven Williamson (Minneapolis, Minn.) 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. The Daemen team of Luis de Vuyst (Antwerp, Belgium) and Rohan Chitanand (Den Haag, Netherlands) picked up a win at No. 2 doubles following a 6-4 win over David Rodriquez and Julien Voisey.

Daemen took a 2-1 lead in the match after seniors Phillip Vance (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and Zachary Laplante (Ottawa, Ont.) picked up wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively. Vance defeated Rodriquez, 6-3, 6-1, while LaPlante posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jarvis.

Allegheny secured the match by winning the next three singles matches. Hedlund defeated Lumanog (6-4, 6-1) at No. 1 singles, Carr defeated de Vuyst (7-6, 6-1) at No. 2 singles and Voisey defeated Gibson (6-4, 6-4) at No. 6 singles. Chitanand picked up his first career singles victory at No. 5, defeating fellow freshman Nelson, 7-5, 6-2.

Daemen is now idle until Oct. 22 when it closes out the fall portion of its 2022-23 schedule with a match at Division I Niagara University.
