LAST TIME OUT Graduate student Olivia Hoffman totaled a goal and an assist to lead regionally-ranked Cedarville to a 4-0 victory over Daemen this past Wednesday. Senior goalkeeper Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) kept Daemen in the game with several outstanding saves during the first half. She registered seven saves in the first half and the teams entered the break tied at 0-0. The host Yellow Jackets broke the scoreless tie four minutes into the second half and then secured the win with two goals in the span of 1:10 midway through the second half. Hoffman scored her third goal of the year at 64:42 to give Cedarville a 2-0 lead, and then assisted on a goal by freshman Molly McNeill at 65:52 to make it 3-0. The Yellow Jackets finished with a 27-9 edge in total shots and a 14-2 advantage in shots on goal. DeLappi stopped a season-high 10 shots before giving way to freshman Becca Schultz (Grand Island, N.Y.) in the 69th minute. Schultz did not register a save over the final 20 minutes. RETURNING VETERANS Daemen returns 20 players from its 2021 team, including six who collected All-ECC honors last year. Experience is abundant, as the team features two graduate students, seven seniors and five juniors. The team's top five scorers from last year all return to the pitch this fall. Senior Tatyjana Scalisi (Williamsville, N.Y.) and sophomore Alyssa Diaz (Rochester, N.Y.) accounted for 13 of the team's 34 goals last year and both earned first team All-ECC honors. Scalisi also earned all-region honors, while Diaz became the first player in program history to be named the ECC Rookie of the Year. All-conference defenders Julia Eichel (Grand Island, N.Y.) and Baylin Tighe (Tonawanda, N.Y.) return after heading up a backline that surrendered just 20 goals in 16 games last year. Senior goalkeeper Tori DeLappi (Medina, Ohio) is coming off an all-conference junior season in which she averaged five saves a game and posted a 1.27 goals against average. Graduate students Grace Stranahan and Katelyn Sidoti will serve as teams captains for 2022. ROAD WARRIORS Daemen is in the middle of a stretch of seven-straight road games. The Wildcats will travel nearly 2,500 miles by the end of the stretch, with the longest trip being Southern New Hampshire in Manchester N.H. (438 miles) and the shortest trip being Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa. (83 miles). After Mercyhurst, the Wildcats close out the stretch with games at St. Thomas Aquinas, Assumption and Molloy. ON THE HORIZON Daemen returns to East Coast Conference play Saturday (Oct. 1) when it travels to St. Thomas Aquinas. SCOUTING THE LAKERS Mercyhurst is a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Mercyhurst had a six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1) snapped following a 2-1 loss to Gannon last Wednesday and played Indiana University pf Pa. to a 1-1 draw this past Saturday. MU is ranked eighth in the Atlantic Region by the United Soccer Coaches. Last year the Lakers went 14-6-1 overall, advanced to the semifinals of the PSAC Tournament and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Mercyhurst lost to Concord in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lakers were picked first in the preseason PSAC West coaches' poll. Sophomore Karah Van Horn has scored a goal in five of the team's nine games and has totaled a team-high six goals and 12 points. Junior Maddie Elbro has played every minute in goal thus far (0.89 GAA) and made a season-high seven saves in the draw with Indiana Pa. this past weekend. ALL-TIME SERIES: DAEMEN VS.
