Moote Picks Up Fourth-Place Finish, Wildcats Place Two In Top-10

FRANK DILLON MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL - FULL RESULTS

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Daemen University men's cross country team opened up the 2022 season by placing second out of seven teams at the Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational on Saturday morning on the campus of Le Moyne. 

Junior Jon Moote (Wilson, N.Y.) picked up his second career top-10 finish, placing fourth overall in the field of 81 runners with a time of 21:12.3 over the 6K race. Teammate Phil Ceccarelli (Hamburg, N.Y.) finished 10 seconds behind Moote, posting a sixth-place time of 21:22.9. 

Seven schools were represented at the event.  SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry had four runners finish among the top-10 finishers en route to claiming the team title with a score of 42. Daemen finished second with a score of 59, narrowly edging out host Le Moyne (60). Oswego (81), SUNY Broome (120), Morrisville (142) and Onodaga Community College (200) rounded out the teams. 

SUNY-ESF senior Matthew Tripp took home the individual title, completing the 6K course in 20:11.2

Daemen returns to action ext Saturday (Sept. 10) as they host the Daemen Alumni Invitational at Williamsville's Bassett Park.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen had a total of 10 runners compete today.
  • Moote returns as Daemen's top finisher in the 2022 season opener. He was the top finisher from Daemen in five out of the six races he competed in last season.
  • Ceccarelli's sixth-place finish marks a career-high finish. The junior's previous career-high was eighth-place at the Daemen Duels in 2021. 
  • Junior Connor O'Brien (Hamburg, N.Y.) rounded out the top-10 with a time of 21:46.4, setting a personal-record collegiate 6K time. He finished 15th in the Frank Dillon Memorial Invitational last season with a time of 21:53.4. 
  • Junior Steven Blatto (Lancaster, N.Y.) finished 18th overall with a time of 22:14.1. 
  • Junior John Balch rounded out the Daemen scoring with a time of 22:14.1 for a 21st place finish.
  • Senior John Bruggman (Batavia, N.Y.) earned a 31st place finish with a time of 22:57.2.
  • Juniors David Schwinger (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Laertes Cushing (Alfred, N.Y.) along with sophomore Nolan Robillard (Hamburg, N.Y.) also figured into the race today. Schwinger finished 26th overall with a time of 22:47.6, Cushing placed 35th with a time of 23:27.9 and Robillard posted a time of 23:49.5 to finish 40th. 
  • Redshirt-senior Alexander Reynolds (Olean, N.Y.) rounded out the Daemen runners and placed 51st with a time of 24:29.5.
