Wildcats Finish 12th At Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic

STORMIN' BLUE & WHITE VEGAS CLASSIS FINAL STANDINGS


LAS VEGAS, Nev. -  The Daemen University women's bowling team closed out play at the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic this afternoon. The 14-team tournament was hosted by Mount St. Mary's University at the South Point Hotel and Casino and featured 10 programs that are currently ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top-25.

The Wildcats entered today's bracket play in 11th place after totaling 8,945 total pins over the first two days of the tournament. Today's winners were determined using the Baker best-of-seven format. Daemen knocked off Prairie View A&M, 4-3, in its first match today, before falling to No. 17 Tulane, 4-1. The loss to Tulane put the Wildcats in the 11th/12th place match with Texas Southern University. Daemen finished in 12th place after dropping a 4-2 decision to TSU.

McKendree, which entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in the country, was atop the standings after the first two days with 11,023 total pins, and the Bearcats completed an undefeated weekend by beating No. 3 Vanderbilt in the championship match today.

The Wildcats are now 29-22 on the season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen opened its match against Prairie View A&M with a 173-131 victory in game one and the opened a 2-0 lead after posting a 190-155 win in game two. PWAM answered with a 202-147 victory in game three, and tied the match at 2-2 after posting a 174-159 win in game four. Daemen regained a 3-2 lead following a 186-176 victory in game five, but the Panthers forced a seventh and deciding game after rolling to a 198-166 win in game six. Daemen, which suffered a 958-859 loss to PVAM during opening day action, pulled out the win with a 174-148 victory in game seven.
  • Daemen then squared off against No. 17 Tulane, with the winner advancing to the 9th/10th place game. The teams rolled to a 161-161 draw in game one, before Tulane took control with three-straight wins. The Green Wave posted a 191-149 victory in game two, a 194-152 win in game three and a 196-182 win in game four. Daemen stayed alive with a 192-191 victory in game five, before Tulane secured the win with a 190-136 win in game six.
  • Texas Southern came out strong in the 11th/12th place match, posting a 244-182 victory in game one. TSU went up 3-0 after posting a pair of close wins in games two (159-155) and three (160-157), before the Wildcats rallied with wins in game four (196-191) and game five (183-180). TSU closed out the match with a 207-133 win in game six.
  • Junior Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) turned in an outstanding effort during Monday's traditionally scored matches. She rolled a 246 during a loss to No. 3 Vanderbilt and closed out the day ranked 20th among all bowlers with a 207.20 average over five games. Senior Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) ranked 38th (188.80), while classmate Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.) and graduate student Christina Aldridge (Lima, N.Y.) also placed in the top-50. Nowak ranked 42nd (185.20) and Aldridge ranked 47th(173.00).

UP NEXT
Daemen is idle until the weekend of Feb. 10-11 when it travels to Latrobe, Pa. The Wildcats will take on Saint Vincent College in a dual match on Feb. 10 and then take part in the Brother Patrick Lacey Memorial Tournament the following day. Daemen has participated in this tournament each of the last four years (tournament was not held in 2021 due to COVID-19) and has claimed the tournament title three times (2018, 2019 and 2022).
