Daemen has now won five of its last six games and improved to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the ECC. CSI, which is in year two of its transition from NCAA Division III to Division II, dropped to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in the league. Daemen entered tonight's game receiving votes in the latest NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region poll. IMPACT PLAYERS Fasoyiro, whose previous career-high was 18 points during a win at Mercy College last month, connected on 10-of-17 shots overall and made 4-of-5 from downtown. He scored 19 of his 31 points in the second half and also contributed four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Junior Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) netted 15 points for the second consecutive game. He played 37 minutes, went 3-of-5 from three-point land and grabbed five rebounds. Redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) connected on 5-of-8 shots and totaled 11 points, five rebounds and three blocks. Junior Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) added 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks in just 17 minutes off the bench. Senior Ryan Salzberg (Manlius, N.Y.) played 36 minutes and contributed six points, six rebounds and a season-high six assists. Freshman guard James Chestnut connected on 12-of-19 field goals and totaled 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the host Dolphins, while sophomore forward Messiah Mallory added 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. GAME NOTES Today's game marked just the third all-time meeting between the two schools. Daemen has prevailed in all three meetings. Daemen was hot from three-point land early in the game (5-of-7 from downtown) and the Wildcats used a 17-4 run to build a 27-14 lead. Six different players scored during the rally and a bucket by redshirt junior Justin Poumpey (Buffalo, N.Y.) with 10:53 left in the half capped the run. CSI answered with a 7-2 spurt and cut the lead to eight points, 29-21, after sophomore Luis Armas scored with 9:02 left in the frame. Daemen's eighth three-pointer of the half gave the Wildcats a 43-31 lead with just under three minutes left before halftime, and Daemen took a 14-point lead, 47-33, following a driving layup by Fasoyiro at the 1:24 mark. The Wildcats would take a 48-35 lead into the break. CSI put together a 17-6 run over the first eight minutes of the second half and cut the Daemen lead to two points, 54-52, following a layup by Chestnut with 12:04 left. Daemen then scored 14 unanswered points to regain a 16-point lead. Fasoyiro scored 12 points during the run and his jumper with 6:58 left gave the Wildcats a 68-52 lead. The Daemen lead was 11 points, 75-64, after Fasoyiro drained his fourth three-pointer of the game with 3:12 remaining, but CSI put together one last push and eventually cut the lead to five points, 77-72, following a three-pointer by junior Bryce Waterman with 37 seconds left. Mason made two free throws four seconds later to secure the win. The Wildcats shot 58-percent (19-of-33) from the field in the first half and finished 28-of-57 (49%) from the field overall. Daemen made 10-of-16 from downtown, marking the sixth time this season the Wildcats have made 10 or more triples in a game. The Wildcats went 13-of-20 from the charity stripe. CSI shot 54-percent (15-for-28) from the field in the second half and finished 30-of-57 (53%) from the field overall. The Dolphins, who entered the game averaging nine three-pointers a game, went 8-of-14 from downtown and canned 7-of-9 free throws. Daemen finished with a 30-25 edge in total rebounds, marking the 11th time this season the Wildcats have out rebounded their opponent. Daemen hauled in nine offensive rebounds and finished with a 14-9 advantage in second chance points. CSI finished with an advantage in points in the paint (38-30) and points off turnovers (23-22). NEXT JUMP BALL Daemen is back in action Monday (Jan. 9) with a non-league game against Assumption of the Northeast-10 Conference at Lumsden Gymnasium. The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 17 but was postponed due to weather.
