Daemen has now won four straight and six of its last seven games. The Wildcats improved to 9-6 overall. Assumption, a member of the Northeast-10 Conference, suffered its fourth-straight loss and dropped to 5-10. Daemen finished 3-1 this year against the NE-10 and 7-3 overall in non-conference games. Daemen entered today's game ranked ninth in the latest NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region poll. IMPACT PLAYERS Redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) scored 15 of his game-high 18 points in the second half and also contributed seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Junior Andrew Mason (Webster, N.Y.) went 4-of-5 from three-point land and totaled 16 points and four rebounds Junior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) played 35 minutes and contributed 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Junior Justin Hemphill (Buffalo, N.Y.) scored in double figures for the third time in the past four games and finished with 12 points in just 10 minutes off the bench. Senior Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) played a team-high 37 minutes and totaled 10 points and a season-high seven rebounds, while fellow senior Ryan Salzberg (Manlius, N.Y.) added nine points. Senior guard Kani Glover scored 15 points in the second half for Assumption and finished with a team-high 16 points. GAME NOTES Today's game marked just the second all-time meeting between the two schools, and the first since the 2002-03 season. The all-time series is now 1-1. Assumption was making its first ever visit to Lumsden Gym. The game featured two of the better three-point shooting teams in the region. Assumption entered the game averaging 9.5 triples a game and finished 11-of-28 from downtown today. Daemen entered the game averaging eight three-pointers and game and went 9-of-23 from long range today. The 88 points was a season high for Daemen. Daemen held a 12-11 lead six minutes into the game when a bucket by Hemphill sparked the hosts on an 11-2 run. A corner three-pointer by sophomore Payton Shumpert (Syracuse, N.Y.) capped the run and gave Daemen a 23-13 lead with 11:25 left before halftime. The Daemen lead was eight points, 33-25, when the Wildcats took control with 11 unanswered points. A layup by Salzberg with 3:32 left before intermission capped the run and gave the Wildcats their largest lead of the first half, 44-25. Daemen would take a 47-33 lead into the break. Daemen opened the second half with an 8-2 spurt and took a 20-point lead, 55-35, following a three-pointer by Mason. The Daemen lead was 21 points, 64-43, eight minutes into the second half when the Greyhounds put together an 18-5 run that cut the lead to eight points, 69-61. A layup by MacDonald and four free throws by Fasoyiro built the Daemen lead back to 14 points, 75-61, and the Greyhounds came no closer than 13 points after that. The Wildcats shot 52-percent (33-of-64) from the field, marking the sixth time this season—and the fifth time over the last eight games—it has shot 50-percent or better in a game. The Wildcats went 13-of-16 from the charity stripe. Assumption shot 48-percent (26-for-54) from the field overall and made 11-of-15 from the charity stripe. Daemen forced a season high 20 turnovers and the hosts finished with a 32-19 advantage in points off turnovers. Daemen also finished with an 11-6 edge in second chance points and a 42-28 advantage in points in the paint.
