Wildcats Complete Day One Of The Stormin' Blue & White Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -  The Daemen University women's bowling team opened the Spring portion of its 2022-23 schedule by taking part in opening day action of the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic. The 14-team tournament features some of the top programs in the country and is taking place Jan. 8 through 10 at the South Point Hotel and Casino.

The Wildcats played five matches today, all of which were scored using Baker format. Four of their five opponents are currently ranked in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top-25.

Daemen dropped four of the five matches sit in 13th place in the tournament standings. The Wildcats now stand at 28-15 on the season.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Daemen opened the day with a 1,000-850 loss to No. 16 Newman. Daemen won two of the first three games, but trailed in total pins (585-524) after three games. Newman completed the match by winning game four (179-145) and game five (236-181).
  • Daemen then squared off against McKendree which is ranked No. 1 in the country. The Bearcats posted an average score of 226 and won all five games during a 1,132-891 victory.
  • Daemen fell to 0-3 on the day following a 958-859 loss to Prairie View A&M. The teams split the first four games and PVAM took a 752-694 lead into the fifth game. The Panthers took game five 206-166 to secure the win.
  • Daemen got its first win of the tournament after knocking off tournament host and No. 15 Mount St. Mary's. Daemen won two of the first three games and held a total pin lead of 559-523 after three games. The Mount cut the Daemen lead to 11 pins (768-757) after they posted a 234-209 win in game four. Daemen prevailed 193-192 in the fifth and final game to secure the win.
  • Daemen closed out the day with a 1,032-856 loss to No. 5 Stephen F. Austin. SFA posted a 214-146 win in game one and held a 55-pin lead (778-723) lead after four games. SFA closed out the match with a 254-133 win in game five.
  • Graduate student Christian Aldridge (Webster, N.Y.) and seniors Caitlyn Nowak (West Seneca, N.Y.), Nicole Bergeron (Lima, N.Y.) and Paige Bartosz (West Seneca, N.Y.) all competed in all five matches today. Junior Mollie Gizicki (Brighton, Mich.) played in four of the five matches, while junior Emma Smith (Williamsville, N.Y.) played in game three.
UP NEXT
Day two of the tournament gets underway at 1 p.m. (EST). The Wildcats will once again play five matches.
