Daemen has now won five straight and seven of its last eight games. The Wildcats improved to 10-6 overall and 3-3 in the league. Roberts dropped to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the ECC. Daemen entered today's game ranked ninth in the latest NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region poll. IMPACT PLAYERS Mason went 7-of-9 from downtown and equaled his career-high for three-pointers in a game which he set during a loss at Saint Thomas Aquinas earlier this year. The seven three-pointers tied Daemen's NCAA-era (2015-present) record for three-pointers in a game originally set by current assistant coach Jeff Redband. Redband made seven three-pointers in a game four times during his career, most recently on Feb. 7, 2020 during a loss at Bridgeport. Hemphill played a career-high 30 minutes and equaled his career-high for points (16) that he set earlier this year during a win over Cheyney. He also established a career-high for rebounds (14) en route to his second double-double of the year. The reigning ECC Defensive Player of the Week, he also dished out a career-high six assists and blocked a career-high four shots. Junior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) got into early foul trouble and played just 19 minutes, but still managed to contribute 13 points, five rebounds and three steals. Redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) added 12 points, five rebounds and a career-high five blocks. Senior Nick MacDonald (Amherst, N.Y.) totaled 11 points and five rebounds, while fellow senior Ryan Salzberg (Manlius, N.Y.) added four points, five rebounds and six assists. Senior guard Abou Gbane scored a team-high 15 points for the Redhawks. GAME NOTES Daemen has now prevailed in 25 of the last 26 meetings between the two longtime rivals and the Wildcats now own a 47-12 advantage in the all-time series. Daemen has also prevailed in the last 14 meetings with RWU at Lumsden Gymnasium. Daemen outscored the Redhawks 15-5 over the first eight minutes and the hosts later took a 22-8 lead following a three-pointer by Mason with 9:15 left before halftime. Mason's fifth three-pointer of the first half gave the Wildcats a 38-19 lead with just over two minutes left in the half, and the hosts would take a 42-27 lead into the break. Daemen opened up a 20-point lead, 52-32, after Hemphill converted a conventional three-point play five minutes into the second half. The Daemen lead was still 18 points, 62-44, with 11 minutes to play when the Redhawks rallied behind an 11-3 spurt that cut the lead to 10 points, 65-55. Daemen later regained a 16-point lead, 73-57, following a conventional three-point play by Fasoyiro with 3:34 left, and Roberts came no closer than 12 points down the stretch. Daemen registered a season-high 11 blocks in the game and also grabbed a season-high 51 rebounds. The Wildcats posted a 51-23 advantage in total rebounds. The Wildcats have limited 11 of their 16 opponents to 70 points of less this season. The Wildcats shot 54-percent (15-of-28) from the field in the first half and finished 27-of-53 (51%) from the field overall. Daemen has now shot 50-percent or better in six of its last nine games. The Wildcats went 9-of-19 from three-point land and made 19-of-26 free throws. Roberts shot 35-percent (25-for-70) from the field overall and was just 4-of-21 from downtown. The Redhawks made 11-of-14 from the charity stripe. RWU's pressure defense forced Daemen to commit 25 turnovers, but the Redhawks only finished with a 15-12 advantage in points off turnovers. Roberts also held the advantage in points in the paint (34-30), while Daemen owned the edge in second chance points (11-8). NEXT JUMP BALL Daemen is idle until Tuesday (Jan. 17) when its heads across town to face D'Youville in an ECC game. It will be the first of four straight road games for the Wildcats.
