Wildcats Return To Regional Rankings 1/9/2023 3:25:00 PM By: CONTACT: Tom McDermott, Director of Athletics Communications | tmcdermo@daemen.edu AMHERST, N.Y. – The Daemen University men's basketball team is ranked ninth in the eighth NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) East Region Men's Basketball Media Poll for 2022-23. The poll was released this afternoon prior to Daemen posting an 88-74 win over Assumption University. The Wildcats have won six of their last seven games and stand at 9-6 on the year. Daemen leads the East Coast Conference in team defense (66.0 papg) and has limited five of its last seven opponents to less than 70 points. Redshirt senior Joey Atkins (Watervliet, N.Y.) totaled 18 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and four steals in the win over Assumption and leads the team in scoring (13.4 ppg), rebounding (6.5 rpg), steals (27) and blocks (35). Junior Dylan Fasoyiro (Houston, Tex.) scored a career-high 31 points in a win over Staten Island and is averaging 11.2 points and 5.0 rebounds. Daemen is 2-3 in ECC play and the Wildcats return to conference play Wednesday (Jan. 11) when they host rival Roberts Wesleyan University. Daemen collected 11 points in this week's regional poll. Bentley collected all six first place votes and remains atop the poll with 60 points. Dominican (54), Pace (46), St. Thomas Aquinas (43) and New Haven (36) round out the top five. The remainder of the poll includes Saint Anselm (28), Southern Connecticut State (27), Le Moyne (18), Daemen (11), Bloomfield (2), Post (2) and Southern New Hampshire (2). The D2SIDA East Region media poll is conducted by sports information professionals representing the East Coast Conference, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and Northeast-10 Conference.
